Lynxheart hissed at the dogs under them. "Go away already!" she growled. "We aren't coming down!" It only seemed to aggravate the dogs more.
Frostpaw took a deep breath, feeling her body trembling. Roseheart wailed. She was in serious pain.
I have to do this... Frostpaw told herself. Otherwise, I'll never be a true medicine cat.
She nudged a poppy seed towards Roseheart. "Eat this. You won't feel as much pain," she instructed, strict but gentle.
Roseheart nodded, eating the poppy seed. Her face contorted in disgust at the taste, but she seemed to be feeling a little bit better. Frostpaw looked at Rainstorm. "Help me," she told him.
Rainstorm nodded. "How?" he asked.
"I know this may sound a bit dangerous, but do you think you could try to run away and make the dogs chase you? If you can outrun them and cover up your scent, we'll be able to find a safer spot to do this." Frostpaw also knew that after kitting, Roseheart would need to get somewhere to rest, as well as give her kits warmth and milk, and being trapped in a tree wouldn't help.
At first, Rainstorm seemed reluctant and surprised, but he nodded. "You can count on me." He looked down at the dogs! "Hey mouse-brains! Can't catch me!" Rainstorm hopped off the tree and sprinted away, the dogs distracted by him and running after him.
"Okay Roseheart, this may hurt a little, but you have to pull through," Frostpaw warned.
"Of course," Roseheart said, her voice sounding a bit pained but still trying to be strong. Frostpaw admired the red she-cat.
(I AM NOT WRITING A CAT'S BIRTHING SCENE. I CAN'T. I'M SORRY BUT NO.)
Frostpaw closed her eyes taking a deep breath before looking at the tiny kittens squirming around their mother, who looked exhausted.
"Roseheart, are you strong enough to come to PineClan camp with us?" Frostpaw asked. PineClan was the closest camp, since BirchClan's could still be being attacked, and Frostpaw would much rather go there then OakClan, with Clawfur and Tigerfrost.
"I think so," Roseheart meowed.
Lynxheart spoke. "I could carry the kits; I'll be gentle. I promise."
"Okay..." Roseheart nodded. "I hope Rainstorm's okay." She seemed a bit worried about him.
"I've got faith in Rainstorm that he'll be fine. We've got to hurry, before it gets dark out," Lynxheart comforted Roseheart, but Frostpaw could hear Lynxheart's nervous thoughts. Is he going to be okay, or will he die?
Frostpaw felt a bit anxious, knowing that while her Clan could be dying she was holding the lives of innocent kits in her paws. She wondered if she could really do it. Suddenly, a strange sensation came over Frostpaw, and she felt much more courageous than she just did. She felt stronger, more powerful. Like a true medicine cat.
"We can do this," she whispered to herself, then smiled a bit. "He'll be fine," she told them. "Let's go!"
Lynxheart seemed to notice Frostpaw's sudden burst of confidence, and seemed to smile a little bit too. "Right!"
"We'll all get there safely...Rainstorm's going to be fine...I know it," Frostpaw told herself. "Yeah...everything will be fine. I'm a true medicine cat."
