Ravenpaw followed Fangheart out into the clearing. Fangheart was going to teach him how to hunt, and Ravenpaw was excited.

Fangheart and Ravenpaw were crouched below the reeds, watching a vole scramble by. The vole stopped to sniff a piece of grass, and Fangheart pounced. He clawed the vole's neck and killed it.

Ravenpaw watched closely, making mental notes on his mentor's form. He listened to the tiny "clang" sound of Fangheart's claws when the two paws met. Ravenpaw followed everything his mentor did, making sure not to miss anything.

"Your turn," Fangheart meowed.

Ravenpaw nodded and crouched down. He sniffed the ground and followed the fresh scent of mouse, claws sheathed as to not make noise. Then he saw the tiny creature nibbling on a piece of grass.

Silently, Ravenpaw stalked his prey. But the mouse noticed him, yet a second too late. Ravenpaw pounced and barely managed to keep the mouse in his paws, clawing it as many times as he could to make sure it was dead.

Fangheart padded over to him. "Good catch, but you pounced a bit too late. Next time, don't watch the mouse for so long. And try not to claw it too much, you might tear a claw."

Ravenpaw nodded, but on the inside he was annoyed. It was his first catch, yet all his mentor did was criticize him about it. Although he was a bit angry, Ravenpaw wouldn't ever talk back to his mentor.

"Ravenpaw..." Fangheart was saying. Ravenpaw looked up and listened. "You were named after my brother, did you know that?"

Ravenpaw shook his head. He knew that he was named after Ravenclaw, Mistyleaf's first true love, but not that Fangheart was his brother.

"Back when we were apprentices, Ravenclaw and I were disliked by the other cats. Ravenclaw teased Mistyleaf and her mate and sisters a lot, but he always had a special spot in his heart for Mistyleaf. That's why he gave up his life for her," Fangheart explained. Ravenpaw listened closely, wanting to hear all about his mentor and Ravenclaw's lives.

"Ravenpaw, can you keep a secret?" Fangheart meowed. Ravenpaw nodded. "Good," the white warrior said. "Well...I'm half-clan."

Ravenpaw stared in disbelief. His mighty warrior mentor, the cat he looked up to, was half-clan. "Who was your..." he started, but Fangheart answered first.

"Brownstar."
