"So, why were you waiting for me?"

"Ah, that's...."

No way I can just ask him that question out of the blue right?

"Hey, (Y/n)-Chan?"

"Hmm?"

"How did you know where Raira High was? I mean you haven't been in Ikebukuro for long right?"

"Ah, well, I asked Izaya-Kun-"

I stopped mid-sentence in response to his change in facial expression.

That expression again.

How his wide cheerful smile immediately drops into a deep frown and he becomes dead serious the very moment Izaya-Kun is mentioned.....

"Why?"

His eyes widened at my words, making me realise what had just happened.

I said that out loud.

I didn't know what to say, or what to do.

His gaze wasn't breaking, only intensifying as every second passed by and I could no longer take it, quickly looking down to the ground, away from his eyes.

"Kida-Kun....why do you suddenly change when Izaya-Kun is mentioned?"

I said it.

I really said it.

I couldn't look up to face him, so I couldn't see what his face looked like.

Awkward silence filled the atmosphere for a few minutes, making me feel even more awkward and nervous.

M-maybe I should say something—

"(Y/n)-Chan, you shouldn't stay too close to him."

Eh?

I looked up in surprise, but he had already turned away from me.

But his tone told me everything.

It was stiff and serious, different from his usual cheery and upbeat tone.

That wasn't the usual Kida-Kun.

But—

I don't know him that well, how did I know if that was really the usual      Kida-Kun?

I'm not—

I'm not even in the position to ask him that question.

I have to apologise.

"Kida-Kun—"

"I have to leave now, I gotta take care of something. Bye, (Y/n)-Chan."

He turned back to me, flashing a small forced smile towards me, before walking away.

Wait.

Don't leave.

Why?

Why are you acting so different?

Why are you smiling like that?

Why are you just walking away without saying anything else?

I wanted to stop him, to tell him I was sorry.

But, I couldn't.
