It was the final, and Luke had been both excited, and nervous all in one. Brogan had to be cautious around him. Somedays he'd come in all beaming, ready to start rehearsals; and the next, he'd be quiet and distant. Brogan understood how much of a big deal this was to him, so she took his ignorance with a pinch of salt. It was Saturday afternoon, and Brogan was sitting in the canteen, sipping a cup of tea.
"Mind if I join?"
Brogan looked up and smiled,
"Course not."
Luke sat down beside her, and he held her hand,
"Sorry."
She furrowed her eyebrows together,
"For what?"
"For this week. For being a dick, being distant, my constant mood swings." He shrugged. "All of it."
Brogan shook her head,
"Don't be silly, Luke. I understand that this is a big deal for you."
Luke nodded in agreement,
"I want this so bad."
She stroked her thumb across his cheek, and she smiled slightly at him,
"I know." She whispered.
Luke leaned his head into Brogan's hand, that was currently cupping his cheek, and then he sighed slightly.
"I'm the dark horse." He said after a few minutes of silence.
"You're unique."
"But is that a good thing?"
Brogan let out a laugh,
"You're in the final, aren't you? What's that tellin' you?"
Luke smiled at her,
"You always know what to say to make me feel better, you do."
Brogan smiled back at him,
"Just doin' my job." She moved her hand from his face. "It doesn't matter what the results are tonight or tomorrow. You made it to the final out of thousands of people. And you, my darling, are going to make it big in this industry. I can feel it."
Luke leaned over, kissing her lips deeply once,
"I'm so happy I met you."
Brogan blushed and smiled,
"I'm so happy I met you, too." After tucking her fringe behind her ear, she continued. "And besides, I'm kinda in love with your songs. So, I'm positive that everyone else will be, too."
"You're just being modest." Luke smiled.
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not."
He chuckled at her.

Rehearse. Wardrobe. Hair. Rehearse. Talk to Louis. Rehearse. Wardrobe. Rehearse. Rehearse. Rehearse. This has been Luke's schedule all week. And all he wanted to was get on that stage and just perform his heart out. He also felt guilty for barely spending any time with Brogan. But she had been busy, too. So he felt slightly relieved knowing that. It was an hour until the show started, and Luke, Nicholas and Sam (Bailey) were in the dressing room getting their hair and makeup done. Brogan and Katie were going over the lineup for tonight's show, but Brogan's stomach was in knots. And Katie knew this.
"Come on, spill."
Brogan looked up at her.
"You can talk to me about it, y'know? It's just us. I won't judge." Katie reassured her.
Brogan sighed,
"I'm just so nervous for him. I'm so glad I haven't been filming this week, because I probably would've just cried on camera, or something."
Katie let out a small laugh,
"Yeah, I'm glad we decided to stop at the semi-finals. It's been so hectic this week."
Brogan nodded in agreement.

The live show had begun. All the previous contestants were back and catching up, while watching the show backstage. Brogan was standing near Luke. She didn't want to fuss him or bother him. She understood that there was so much going on in his mind. The crowd was so much louder tonight, and that made Brogan's heart pound so much.
"Right. Luke, Nicholas and Sam. You're needed to get in position for your performance." George came into the space and told them.
Brogan instantly looked at Luke, and he looked at Brogan. She gave him a smile,
"Good luck." She mouthed.
Luke walked over to her and he hugged her tightly.
"Thank you." He whispered in her ear, before kissing the top of her head.
Katie made her way over, as the final 3 made their way to get in position, and she held Brogan's hand,
"Deep breaths. You're more nervous than he is." Katie murmured to her.
"He's better at hiding it than I am." Brogan murmured back.

The results for third place was in. Brogan's heart was pounding as she stared at the screen. Please not Luke. Please not Luke. She thought to herself.
"Luke." Dermott announced.
Brogan's heart sank, her mouth dropped open, and instantly, she felt Katie wrap her arms around her. Brogan couldn't take her eyes off the screen - off of Luke. He was smiling, he was thankful, he was still so positive. She didn't understand it.

A pair of arms wrapped around her from behind, and Brogan sighed quietly, leaning into him. She enjoyed the moment for a few seconds longer, before she turned to face him; wrapping her arms around his neck,
"Congratulations." She spoke quietly.
Luke smiled at her,
"Thanks, B."
"I don't understand." Brogan admitted.
"Understand what?" Luke furrowed his eyebrows.
"Why're you so... Happy?"
Luke smiled,
"Because a beautiful, wise girl told me earlier; that even if I leave tonight, I still made it to the final." Brogan smiled at him. "And yeah, it sucks. And I'm a bit disappointed. But I love Nicky and Sam. They both deserve it."
Brogan stuffed her face in his neck,
"You're a good guy, Luke Friend." She mumbled.
Luke chuckled,
"Why thank you, Brog."
