CHAPTER 2

"Good Morning, Chester High!!" Our principal, Mr. Fester, loudly and cheerfully announced over the school intercom.

"How is everyone doing today on this fine morning we're having?"

Well that was a dumb question. He couldn't even hear us, nor see us, so how were we supposed to answer?

I looked out the window of home room class and saw that it was still raining outside, making the point of the 'nice day' also invalid.

After a few more awkward moments of silence, Principal Fester finally continued on with the morning announcements.

"So, um, today's schedule is same as normal; no assemblies or anything of that matter until next week of course. So that gives everyone a nice and relaxing day! But before I go, I have a special announcement for you seniors, so listen up!"

My eyes widened as I had an odd feeling about what he was going to say next for some reason.

"Now as you seniors all know, there has been a new student that has just arrived at our school today. He's a rather shy person, so I have decided that I am going to have one of my best students walk him to his classes."

I gulped hard.

Let's just hope I'm not one of Principal Fester's 'best students'. I have no interest in walking the new boy anywhere.

"In conclusion, I would like Miss Charlotte Waters to come to the office for that job, please."

I dropped my pencil on the ground as everyone in home room turned around to look at me with wide eyes and open mouths.

Charlotte Waters... that's me!

Anger bubbled up inside of me. Number one, I absolutely hated being called by my real name... Charlotte. My mother had called me that my whole life before she died and I wanted no remembrance of her whatsoever. It was Charley, and Charley only.

And number two, I didn't want to be the one responsible for this new boy! I have always strived to keep my profile low here at Chester High and with me being put on the spotlight to walk basically our first ever new student, I would probably be remembered for the rest of my time here.

Great.

"You'll need to come immediately, Ms. Waters. To everyone else; have a good day." And I could hear Principal Fester turn off the intercom.

I was frozen in my seat unsure of what to do next exactly. I couldn't move; I was simply paralyzed that I had been chosen. Of all people.

"Charley." My homeroom teacher, Mr. Fargon, snapped me out of my thoughts.

My head shot up. I was surprised I could still move it.

"Y-Yes?"

"You need to go to the front office. Now." He sternly reminded me.

I sighed quietly. "Right."

I slowly got up out of my seat and headed over to the door. I turned the knob and walked out into the hallway, heading towards the front office.

Once there I carefully approached the glass doors, gently pushing them open.

Ms. Mary quickly took notice of me when I walked in.

"Ah, Charley! There you are!" She beamed, standing up from her desk chair and walking over to me.

"Hi Ms. Mary. I'm here for the new student?" I wasn't up for chitchat right now. All I wanted to do was get this guy where he needed to be and move on with my life.

"Oh yes! Right this way!"

I sighed in relief when she dropped the conversation and turned around, heading deeper into the office with her short red hair flapping behind her.

I followed her into the guest room. It was a small room with only a desk and two small leather chairs. It was mainly used for parents if they had to come pick up their kid early or if kids came late to school with a note of some sort.

Or in this case, it was used for a new student.

I scanned the room for any sort of 'newness' and was successful when my eyes landed on a tall, handsome boy leaning up against the wall by the desk with his arms crossed and eyes fixed on the floor.

Boy, was he something.

Ms. Mary stopped dead in her tracks in front of me and turned to face me.

"Charley, I'd like you to meet the new boy. Harold." Her chubby arm was pointed towards the angelic boy standing by the desk.

I looked at Harold again, but this time in complete awe. His disheveled chocolate brown curly hair looked absolutely perfect, his pink lips were full and plump, his eyes, though pointed downward, were absolutely stunning, his whole body was lean, muscular, and... angel-like.

He was absolutely beautiful.

"Well?" Ms. Mary said to me, making me shake my head of my absurd thoughts.

"I'm sorry, what was that?"

"She told you to introduce yourself to me, princess."

I looked at Harold in surprise, as he had answered my question for Ms. Mary. He was also very sarcastic about it which I didn't find funny at all.

I looked back at Ms. Mary.

"Is that what you said?"

She nodded, terrified. She was probably scared of this intimidating boy.

But I wasn't.

I sighed and then turned to Harold. "Hi Harold, I'm-"

"Harry." The boy quickly corrected me.

My eyebrows crossed. "Harry?"

"Yeah, call me that. Never call me Harold." He met my eyes and I could see a mixture of rage and... hurt?

I gulped. "O-Okay... Harry, I'm Charley."

Harry examined me in deep thought for a moment before finally speaking. "Hello Charley."

The way my name smoothly rolled off his lips made my stomach flip.

Oh gosh, please tell me I am not falling for this boy. Because I can't be; he's not my type. A rude boy with an attitude is not the guy for me.

"Well, enough of that. You two have greeted each other enough. Charley, why don't you take him to his first period class? You know.. Show him the way?" Ms. Mary insisted with a light smile on her face.

I shivered a little bit but nodded my head in reply.

"Fantastic! Now hurry along!" And with that she left the room.

I turned to Harry. "So, who's your first period teacher?"

Harry carefully looked down and picked up a piece of paper on the desk and then looked back at me. "Mrs. Sanders it looks like."

I laughed. "Oh, art. First thing in the morning, too! That sucks."

Harry's face turned serious. "It doesn't suck. I happen to like art, so don't bash on it."

I put my hands up defensively. "Sorry there, Harry. Come on lets get you to class." I turned around and headed out the door. I could hear Harry following close behind.
