CHAPTER 14

Gone out for a bit.

Don't come looking for me.

Those ten words kept playing over and over again in my head as I tried to decipher what exactly was going on.

Harry had probably gotten up in the middle of the night and written this note; with me sleeping the whole time.

Did he not like me or something?

"Jerk." I muttered to myself, dropping the note on the ground.

But he did say he was out for a bit; meaning he would come back?

Oh I didn't know.

I rolled my head back as I stood up on my feet, beyond pissed.

Why didn't he want me to come looking for him? What was he hiding?

I knew he was a ghost. So what else could he possibly not want me to know about?

Give it up, Charley. He could've just went out for a walk and wanted some damn privacy. Geez. My conscious told me, and I decided to go with that assumption.

Suddenly, I heard sirens.

I ran to my bedroom window and pulled up my shades, immediately squinting because of the bright lights that hit my eyes.

As I refocused my vision, I could clearly see about five fire trucks making their way past my house, deeper into my neighborhood.

Fire trucks?

Now I was curious.

I anxiously ran to my closet and slipped my slippers on. Then I ran out my door, downstairs, and out the front door of my dark house.

That's when the cold wind hit me like a thousand knives.

Well that's Michigan for you I suppose.

I shivered and my teeth chattered crazily as I looked down at my outfit.

Of course I was wearing my only pajamas that showed most of my skin.

"Sh-Shit." My voice was shaky as I speed walked towards the sound and light of the sirens.

I walked for two blocks until finally turning a corner and seeing where all the commotion was coming from; which made me gasp and drop my arms to my sides.

Up ahead, about seven houses away, I could see a house engulfed in flames, the crackling of the fire easily heard from where I was standing.

Oh my gosh.

I walked to the burning house faster than I had been a few minutes ago, eager to find out what was going on. I would've ran, but the coldness in the air prevented me from doing so, as it chilled every inch of my body.

But as I got closer I could hear yelling.

And I recognized one of the voices immediately, which made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

"What do you mean you don't know?!" Harry yelled.

I scanned the area to find out who he was talking to, and noticed that it was two fire fighters.

This didn't look good.

"Sir-"

"Don't you dare 'sir' me, you-"

"Harry, stop!" I intervened, throwing myself onto him once I had arrived at his side.

He didn't move an inch when I collapsed into him, but comfortably caught me in his arms and snuck his hands around my waist, gasping slightly.
