Chapter 14

She held Bo in her arms and nursed him carefully in her arms. The fast racing of his heart and the unsteady breathing saddened her mind.

Would they be save in here?

The house wouldn't break down by the pressure of water, right?

"Will we die?"

Jia sorrowfully glimpsed at him and shook her head slowly.

In case that they would be in danger, Jia got a jacket, which was hanging in the wardrobe and tied it around her and Bos arm, in order to be linked together.

"DO NEVER LEAVE ME, BO! Always stay by my side, until the danger is gone, ok?"

Jia infixed this order in him over and over again. She wanted to give him affection to calm him and she wanted to give him lots of security and safety, to give him hope.
They were not allowed to lose hope now!
They were not allowed to think in any negative ways.
But were they allowed to live?

The noise of the screaming crowd and the penetrating voice of the nervous coast guard were fading away, it was like the silence before the storm.
Only the wind that was rattling on the door and the siren that howled in the distance were audible.

No, there was something else being heard.
Something that was almost swallowed by the sound of the wind, but Jia could hear it.
Or was it just imagination?

Intently Jia listened to the sound that had made her curious.

There it was again!

knock knock knock

Something was knocking on their door.
Something, or s o m e o n e ?

Then even Bo looked up and started to point at the door.
"Someone is yelling our names..."

They won't be alone anymore! Jia rapidly ran, or more crawled at the floor, to the door and pulled down the doorhandle.
The door swung open at a great pace and Jia could recognize the silhouette of a young man.

It was Jongdae.

Jia looked at him relieved and made a gesture to let him in.
But he just stood there, breathing heavily and stuttered something weird.

Jia pulled him into the house and calmed him down with a caring slap on the back.

"I followed.... You... Please.... You have to get out of .... It is dangerous here...."

Confused Jia stared at him. They weren't save here?

Jongdae pulled both of them out of the house, and screamed against the wind.

"The wave will arrive soon! And then this houses will all be gone. And so will you, if you don't follow me!"

Jia and Bo nodded anxious about his words.

"Bo, you have to be strong for you now!", Jia thought quietly and formed a fist with her shivering fingers.
"I have to be strong for you, too."

The storm was getting heavier, the higher they climed up to the top of the hill, jongdae leaded them to. Jia was breathing heavily and had to make a little rest. Jongdae immediatly turned around and lifted Bo up to his shoulders and additionally grabbed Jia's hand. He screamed against the wind to make her take some more steps.

"Every step you take, could save your life a little more."

Jia looked up with new inducement and gathered all her strength.

They arrived at the top with a frantic gasp. Worried Jongdae looked at Jia, who was sinking to the muddy floor. Then he let Bo down from his shoulders. As Bo felt the ground under his feet he pointed horrified at the sea.
