CHAPTER 2

ONCE CLOSE, NOW APART

A chubby, but cute, 10 year old Kagura looked down at the floor with the umbrella in her hands.

She was being lectured for not saying the spell correctly, making it fail. How many times has this happened already to her? It was countless.

"ay the spell properly!" Kagura's old mom, Kouka, yelled at her, making Kagura shake in fear.

She really hated this.

"Memorize each word!"

"Don't skip anything!"

"Your voice has to maintain a perfect tone!"

She hates it.

"I'm sorry, I won't do it again." Kagura said, her voice cracking. Her mind was so full of negative words from her mom. It had stuffed her mind. The mother noticed her voice and sighed, Kagura was going to cry if she continued yelling at her.

Kouka grabbed the umbrella, placing it somewhere Kagura couldn't get it.

"Continue practicing now."

Kagura nodded and bit her lip, thinking that she was the most useless mage on earth.

"Ara! Nice to see your again Sir Hayabusa. I see you brought your excellent junior with you."

Kagura heard her mom sweetly say that in the distance. It really pissed her off at how she can be different with other people, at how she can be nice to them but not her.

But upon hearing junior, she immediately turned her head up, tiptoeing to the door quietly to see if it was really him.

There Hayabusa stood.

Her best friend.

They met together when Kagura was 8.

Hayabusa would only visit the household when they were requested missions from the Kagura household.

He was the only person that strived her to keep going. He was her light.

She waved her hand at him lightly. Hayabusa had seen and tugged his father's shirt. His dad went to his son's height level, giving Hayabusa the opportunity to whisper into his ear. The father nodded with a smile. "Miss Kouka how about we have a walk in the gardens? I'd like to discuss the missions there while seeing the flowers of your household. They are truly mesmerizing."

"My! Then let's do so." Kouka and Hayabusa's dad walked away. Her mom was always easily swayed from compliments.

When they were gone Kagura had her arms open wide and Hayabusa happily went into those. They both hugged with the reunion they had.

"Boy! How much I miss you!" She genuinely said so with joy. Him being here really brightened her emotions up. What happened earlier felt like it was already forgotten.

Kagura tightly hugged him.

Very tight.

This caused Hayabusa to not breathe and instantly patted her back hard to know what she was doing.

"Oops! Sorry." Kagura gave him a closed eyed smile.

He sighed and said, "Wanna play tag?"

"Oh you're on!"

"Then... You're IT!!" He immediately ran away the moment he had said it. This caused Kagura to be flustered.

"No fair!" Kagura yelled as she chased him. With her chubby body, it was hard to run, especially when Hayabusa was training to be a fast ninja.
