Syrup.. I smell syrup. Sweet maple syrup makes me think about pancakes. I'm hungry.

When was the last time I ate?

I opened my eyes and saw the middle aged lady from last night..

"Mia! You're awake. Just in time for breakfast." The middle aged lady said as she turned to see me. "How are you feeling?" she helped me sit straight on my bed, placing a small table on top of my legs along with some pancakes.

Who is she?

I noticed she was the only one here now. Maybe the others took off. Like what the doctor said last time.

I felt something uncomfortable attached to my head. I tried to touch it lightly, what is this?

I cleared my throat, "Can.. can I borrow a mirror?" I asked. She gave a questioning look, but still gave what I asked for.

I looked at myself. I have a big bandage on my forehead. What happened?

"My, my. Look at you checking yourself out first thing in the morning after all the chaos you brought to us." she said half amazed and half disappointed at me. "The sleep must have been good for you, since you're not.. not hysterical.." she trailed off at her last words. "You're not even asking for your brother, or Alex! Anyway, eat your pancakes-"

"Who's Alex?" I asked, eyebrows furrowed. The name doesn't ring a bell. "and who.. are you?"

She looked at me again in a sudden move, she was shocked. I can tell a lot of thoughts are running in her head right now, but me too. I don"t know her, or any of the people I saw last.

"Mia, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling alright?" she asked, suddenly frantic.

"I'm fine - I feel fine, but I.. I don't know you." I said truthfully. "So please... leave." Her uneasiness is infectious.

"Let's- let's call the doctor, sweetheart. Wait here, okay?" The mention of the doctor made me panic, I screamed.

"No!" I immediately stopped her. I don't want to see a doctor first thing in the morning. I'm afraid they might get me another shot. "I'm fine! There's no need for a doctor." But the sudden movement made me dizzy.

"No, you are not fine!" She said shaking. "Listen to me, do you remember what happened?" She sternly looked into my eyes.

I shook my head, "N-no." She gasped. "W-What happened?" I stuttered. Anxious of what she might answer.

The lady took a seat on the stool placed on the side of my bed. "You were caught in a car accident. You experienced a hard blow in the head, that could explain your memory loss." She sighed, analyzing everything on her own. "You were so depressed," she suddenly broke into tears that she couldn't speak properly. It's like all of the emotions were welling up in her throat, "Your father, and.. oh our sweet child" she continued to cry. I didn't know what to do so I just watched her. "It's my fault," she claimed, her chest heaving up and down because of her cry. "I should have taken better care of our family. This would never have happened."

"Family? We're.. related?" I asked confused. "And accident?" How can I not remember any of these?

"Oh my goodness, this is bad." She cried on her own softly but looked at me back, answering my question "Mia, it's me, Mom." She sounded hurt, trying to make me remember who she is in my life. "The accident.. I hope that this was just an accident, Mia. I hope so."
