Maven stayed with me for the day, filling me in on what's been happening with him while I was unconscious. I learned that he's a senior high student and plays football. He just had an exam recently, but he's not confident about it. He didn't say, but I know he couldn't concentrate on studying because he was worried about me.
"Hey, I have a game next month. Be sure to be okay by that time, you have to watch me play. I.." He paused looking down, "I kinda need you there.." He sounded so embarrassed that it made me smile.
I've just known him for a few hours, but I feel really close to him. Maybe it's the fact that we are siblings, despite the 10 year age gap. "Okay, I'll be there." I promised.
"Great!" For the first time, I saw him smile genuinely. "Maybe you can bring with you Al...Alessia?" His voice changed from excited to confused, staring at the door.
I followed his gaze and asked, "Who?" As if on cue, I heard a knock and the door slid open.
"Hi guys. Alessia here, at your service!" She said smiling energetically. She's the girl who was with my family when I woke up from the accident. She was the first person whom I saw that time. I'm sure of it.
Alessia went straight to the table where Maven was near.
"What are you doing here?" Maven asked Alessia, confused.
"I just finished work and went here." Alessia answered not sparing a glance at Maven.
"What I mean is, you're not supposed to be here. I can take care of Mia alone." Maven's mood drastically changed to being authoritative, like he's going to bite any moment.
"I'm a rebel. Deal with it." She answered, not giving a damn.
What's wrong with these two? They just saw each other but they're already barking.
Alessia proceeded to sit beside my bed. "So, I brought with me some of my favorites books. I figured it might be boring here, so I decided to bring these, maybe to entertain you while you regain your strength back." She smiled at me sweetly.
"Oh uhm, thanks, that's very considerate of you." I smiled back taking a look at the three books she handed. It was of different genres, so I can choose. I looked at her again, "So.. you're.. Alessia, right?"
For a moment, the smile on her face faltered. Like Maven, she still hasn't accepted the fact that I lost all my memories. But then, her smile came back on her lips again, "Yup! You can call me anytime if you need help with something, you have my number anyways." She said giving me a wink. Then I remembered my phone.
"Oh, about that.. I can't really open my phone." I stared at my phone which was sitting on the bed side drawer. "I don't know my pass code."
"Oh." Alessia and Maven said in chorus. I looked at them hopeless, "I guess you can't help me with that." I laughed halfheartedly.
"Sorry." Alessia said, pouting. She's so cute it made me smile a little.
"It's alright. So, are you like," I wasn't sure how to approach her, because she might react like Maven, but I still tried because I can't think of another option, "a sister or.."
"Yes/No." Alessia and Maven answered at the same time. Alessia shot Maven a glare with which the other returned. I stared at them back and forth now knowing what to do with them.
"Um, guys...." I tried to get their attention, but it wasn't working. What is wrong with them?!
After a few seconds, Alessia sighed shaking her head but immediately looks at me after. "Okay fine. We're not blood related. But we treat each other like sisters, so it's basically the same. Besides it sucks to have just a stupid brother." Her last sentence addressed to Maven.
"I'm right here." Maven said through gritted his teeth.
"Well it's great to have you both as siblings!" I spoke quickly before I get to witness another clash between the two. "Why don't we eat, I'm quite hungry." I suggested, I know they serve food at the hospital, but I never liked it.
"I'll get us something." Maven volunteered.
"No need, I already got something for us." Alessia stood up and went to the table where she placed her things.
Maven proceeded to arrange the table and Alessia placed lunchboxes in front of us.
Maven's eyes shot up to Alessia when he saw the food, all of the tension between them earlier disappeared. With wide eyes, he asked, "You cooked these?" Without waiting for the answer, he dug in.
"Me and uh.. my mom." She answered not looking up at us.
I looked at the food, fried rice, beef and omelette.
"Thanks." I said before I ate.
Alessia smiled at me, "You better eat everything, or else I'll get scolded by the one who made that." And I chuckled.
"It's been a long time since I tasted homemade meal again. Mom rarely cooks nowadays." Maven complained.
After gulping another spoonful, Maven spoke "Hey about your phone, I was thinking.. we can just reset it." My eyes widen at his suggestion. We can't reset my phone, I want to see its content!
I was about to shout 'no' when Alessia spoke, "Stupid, all of her important contacts could be there! You can't just delete it." I exhaled, not realizing I was holding my breath.
"Oh," Maven embarrassingly scratched the back of his head, "right."
My attention was suddenly drawn to Alessia. I stared a her intently, studying her features. Alessia's lips are plump and pink, she has those monolid eyes that felt familiar. Like I've seen those set of eyes from someone else before.
"Why are you looking at me like that? You're creeping me out." Alessia said.
I shook my head at her. "Nothing.." Which she just shrugged.
