After lunch I prepared myself to go to the office. I didn't get the chance to see Maven during the morning because he left to school while I was in the shower. I already asked our dad to drive me there, we were the only ones left in the house anyway.
I went down stairs and tried to call his attention, "Uhm, Dad, we can go now." He shot his head up to look at me.
"Oh, okay. Let's go." He stood up and we went to the car.
The whole ride was quiet. I figured my dad wasn't really good with words. I thought about how awkward it would be when we get home. It would be just the two of us, I'd probably just lock myself up in the room.
"Dad," I spoke, "You don't have to wait for me once you drop me to the office. I might take long to come back." I was actually thinking of looking around in the area after the meeting with the HR instead of going home straight away.
"No, it's fine. I'll wait." He insisted.
"Actually, I want to stay for a while. I was thinking of wondering around the area, and be familiar with it again. I can take a cab to get home. I still got a few bills in my wallet. You don't have to worry about me. Please?" I asked, and I hope it works.
I see him hesitate for a while, but in the end he said, "Okay."
Before I got out of the car he kept telling me the address of the house over and over again, and even gave me a few more bills just in case. I didn't argue and took it of course.
The meeting with the HR didn't take really long, they were still actually giving me sad eyes. They kept saying sorry about what happened to me.
It really surprised how I didn't lose my job considering how long I've been away. "Can't lose you, you're the best in your job anyway. And it's only the middle of the year, there's not much work for you Auditors yet." The head of my team said who was also present during the meeting.
They suggested I still review some of my past works to be sure I know what I'd be doing. I'd be going to the office from time to time now. They still haven't required me to come to work regularly yet saying they understand that I still needed some healing. They were too generous to me, it made me feel uncomfortable.
After the meeting, I exited the building and saw a cafe near by. I decided I could kill some time there. I went to get some hot chocolate and sat down. I took out some papers from the office and started doing some review.
I was half way from reading the papers when someone sat in front of me holding a drink of his own. I looked up, brows furrowed, trying to remember who it was.
"Hey, it's me. Christian." He was the guy Maven had fought with in the hospital. Once it registered in me, I quickly tried to gather my things to leave, but he held my hand, stopping me.
"Wait. Please, I know you're scared but I promise I won't do anything. Just.. just talk.. It's been awhile anyway." Although hesitant, I chose to stay and give him a chance to talk. There's a lot of people around, if he tries to do something funny, I can call for help right away.
I shifted in my seat uncomfortably and tried not to meet his eyes.
"So, you're going back to work now huh. I've transferred to a different company, so you don't have to worry about it. Tell Alex that, too." He chuckled, but I wasn't humored. He mentioned the name Alex too. As much as I hate to say it, he caught my attention.
I remember the flashback I had before. He was a senior in the office, and always kept coming too close to me.
"It's not that far though, but don't worry, I won't bother you." He looked ashamed of himself somehow. "You know, I really liked you back then. Maybe even now. I hoped that maybe I still have a chance." I instinctively leaned back to my seat, trying to widen the gap between us. "But when I learned that you and Alex were going to be a real family, I gave up you know. It would be hard to come between the two of you now."
"What?" I muttered to myself, unable to process what this Christian had just said.
"When I heard of your accident I was really worried sick. And when I learned that you woke up, I couldn't help myself, you know? I had to see you for myself. Just make sure that you were alright. I didn't want to cause any harm." He looked down to his hands. I could feel the sincerity in his voice, I don't know how Maven could be this angry to some guy who cares so much for.. me.
"I'm sorry for you loss though. It must be really devastating for the both of you. I can't imagine how hard it must be."
My heart started to beat so fast. "W-what do you mean?" I asked my voice shaking.
He looked back at me, "I mean the accident and your.. Oh shit. They didn't tell you?" He looked shock.
"What is it? Tell me." I demanded. I feel my hands are shaking from fear and anxiety. What were they keeping from me?
"Mia, I.. I don't think I'm in the position to tell you. I mean, they have a purpose why they didn't tell you. I'm.. I'm sorry." He looked at me with so much pity in his eyes, I realize I'm crying.

Christian had left me saying tons of sorry's. I've calmed down and decided to go home. I need answers. I knew they are hiding something from me now, and I'm determined to find out.
I hailed a cab and gave the address home, I looked outside the window and unconsciously played with my accessory. We just passed by the hospital and I suddenly remembered Dr. Montes.
".. confront them. But also keep in mind, you have to ask the right people."
How do I know?

By the time I got back home it was already 8:03 pm. I saw only Maven at the living room. I quickly walked to him. He was playing with his Play Station but looked up when he felt my presence.
"Hey. You're home late." He greeted me and put his attention back to his game. "Alessia told me she already handed you your clothes."
"Yeah, she did. You guys never really told me we lived with each other." I commented, hoping to get some reaction.
"Uh, what?" But Maven was too busy with something else.
"Hey, guess who I met this afternoon." I tried to go on a different direction.
"Wait.. I'm on my last-"
"I met Christian this afternoon." I quickly said.
"What?! Where?! Did he do something to you?!" He just dropped his controller and stood in front of me. Now I got his full attention.
I crossed my arms, "We met at a cafe earlier, we talked and he said something-" before I could finish speaking, Maven cut me in.
"Don't talk to that bonehead ever again. That guy's obsessed with you, you shouldn't believe anything he says, he might trick you into some bait. Especially now he knows you can't remember a thing." He talked with brows furrowed and venom in his voice.
I couldn't say a word after hearing him out. My mind's a complete mess.
I don't know who to trust.
"You should go eat dinner if you haven't. The food is in the fridge." Maven said, not sparing a glance at me.
I didn't eat though. I didn't have the appetite.
