When Mia got home she saw the lights in the kitchen on. The thought of seeing her husband after a long day was enough to make her smile. She walked to the kitchen to see him cooking.
"You're home," Alex looked up at her smiling then continued on cooking.
Mia gave him a back hug, resting her head to his back, "Yup, I'm home." She mumbles with eyes closed.
"It's almost cooked, why don't you sit down while you wait?" Alex suggested.
"I'll prepare the table instead. You made curry, I see." Mia commented.
"Well, it's not exactly me who cooked. Pass me a plate, please."
"What do you mean it's not you who cooked?" Mia was about to pass him a plate when someone walked into their kitchen. Startled, she dropped the plate, breaking it.
Mia gasped, not for the broken plate, but because of the person standing in front of her.
"Dear, are you alright?!" The person took a step closer to her, but she remained motionless, staring at the person.
She couldn't believe her eyes. So many thoughts ran into her mind in a span of seconds. If it weren't for Alex speaking, she wouldn't have gotten back to her senses.
"Mom, don't come nearer. You might get cut, stay there."
When Mia heard Alex's voice. She immediately looked down at the ground, seeing the shards of ceramic that was once a platter.
"I'm sorry, it slipped out of my hands." She crouched down picking up the pieces without thinking. Her mind was still occupied, trying to process the situation. She hadn't noticed Alex bending down beside her.
"Be careful, you might cut your hands. Here, put it in the plastic." Mia obliged unconsciously. She didn't raise her eyes up the whole time. Alex helped her up and swept the remaining shards. Mia remained stiff and quiet on one side the whole time.
"Mia, dear. Are you okay?" She was startled when the old woman came to her. With wide eyes, she stared at her.
She could only nod, unsure of how to act.
"Let me fix the table now so we can eat dinner." The old lady went to do what she was supposed to do earlier.
When Alex came back after throwing the broken ceramic, he went to Mia asking, "Hey, you okay? No cut?"
Instead of answering, she asked, "Why didn't you tell me we have a visitor?"
Alex looked at her with a confused look, "I sent you a message saying Mom's going to be here."
Mom.
This whole time, she was conversing with his mother. And she had no clue.
The woman from the grocery and from the bakery was her mother-in-law. What a coincidence, Mia laughed at her herself internally.
She realized how she was too preoccupied earlier that she didn't even check her phone.
She was internally panicking. She didn't know what to do. She was thinking of the times she and her mother-in-law met, and wondered if she ever acted the way she should have.
"Why are you shaking?" Alex asked noticing his wife's action. Mia glanced at Alex realizing he doesn't know she's met his mother already, that is after she's lost her memory.
"I'm having a mental crisis right now," Mia answered, not looking in his eyes anymore.
"A what? Why?"
