The new kid.

I woke up the next day feeling pretty shitty, and embarrassed but I tried not to think about it too much as my back shot multiple pangs of pain throughout my body.

"Ahhh" I screamed and Rita came rushing in instantly calming me down and handing me some pain killers.

"Your parents are coming back in three hours, I really don't know how you're going to explain yourself out of this one" She laughed and shook her head trying to for me up against the sofa.

When my parents did eventually ask me what happened, I lied to them saying I was trying out some new tricks for parkour on the roof and landed on my back. Thankfully they believed me, it seemed like a pretty legit excuse.

"I keep telling you to stop this parkour nonsense of yours, but you're never going to listen to me until you break your back" My mom sulked. She gets really upset when I do stuff like this, but what else am I supposed to do?

"It's fun" I mumbled trying to hide the immense pain shooting through my body as I got up to go my room in order to avoid any more lectures about the nonsensical things I do.

I took a look at my back in the bathroom mirror and it looked horrible might I add, with four large bruises the size of my fist were splattered on my back like an artwork; blobs of green with bits of light and dark purple. I wont be swimming for a long time. Not that I do anyways.

And so I spent the rest of my Sunday pretending that I wasn't in pain, barely trying to do my homework and occasionally screaming into my pillow at how the fat person who crushed my back really needs to go on a diet before they kill anybody or let alone themselves.

Damn you, fat person.

"Kyler, are you okay?" Lyam frowned, obviously noticing the retarded way I was sitting in geography.

"Oh yeah. Everything's fantastic" I choked as I tried to straighten my back, I really hope I don't need the hospital for this.

Lyam is some guy whom Rita has been obsessed hanging out with him, and with Rita she can get anyone to hang out with her. She's persuasive like that.

"There's a new dude in our class, you know that right?" Tayla squealed with excitement, I rolled my eyes and ignored her whole speech on how handsome and sweet and formal he was. Pssht, like I care. From the sound of him, he's just going to end up like most new guys. They start hanging out with the populars, change their whole lifestyle and become dumb.

"You're just jealous because you could never reach his standard,Kyler" Tayla scoffed.

Now that I look at her, I start to wonder what on earth I ever liked about her. She's your typical blonde and blue eyes, except she's super smart and very opinionated. I asked her out a couple of times, she kept saying I'm not her type; that she goes for classier and respectful guys. Ouch.

I'm pretty classy when I need to be, and I'm very respectful thank you very much. But screw her, I've always got Rita. She's not my girlfriend but she's more than a friend and I like that arrangement. No romance involved, its not everyday a girl says she hates romance, in that case she's a keeper.

"Bitch please" I muttered.

"Okay class, before we begin. I'd like you to meet our new student who recently moved from Cape Town, Alistair Karrington." Ms. Ellard smiled.

"Hello" The new said with slight smile, but you could tell he was a bit uncomfortable. He was quite tall, green eyes and really, really blonde hair, like almost white.

"where would you like to sit, Alistair" Ms. Ellard asked kindly.

"He can come and sit here!" Tayla waved her hands franticly as she pushed Lyam out of the desk next to her and he fell on his butt with an oomph.

"What the fuck man!" Lyam shouted, clearly pissed, "Maybe if you asked it wouldn't be such a big deal" he glared at her,"And you want a guy who's respectful. pssht" He mumbled to himself as he went to find another desk.

I have to admit, that was pretty bitchy of her.

Alistair looked at her with a blank expression but went over to her anyway and slid into the desk as he looked around his surroundings, clearly trying to get used to this. I rolled my eyes and ignored him the rest of the lesson as Tayla attacked with him questions about whatever the hell she was asking.

"I don't like that Alistair guy" I growled as I shoved a piece of chicken pie in mouth that Rita bought for me from the tuckshop,"He's so fancy and posh and annoying" I grimaced.

"Kyler that's mean. you haven't even had a conversation with him before" Rita frowned. She always goes on about not to judge a person by how the look and that I must actually get to know them first but I honestly don't want anything to do with him thank you. But of course Rita being kind and welcoming, she always gets to know the new kids and hangs out with them until they find their place.

"I don't fucking care" I rolled my eyes at her and grabbed her can of ginger beer without her permission.

"You know. If I wasn't so open minded I wouldn't have been friends with you right? You would be nothing without me" She raised an eyebrow and smirked at me," Just look at all the popularity I gave you"

"Whatever"  I mumbled and carried on eating my pie, it was a pretty good pie.

The day dragged on from class to class, assignment after assignment and project after project. Nothing interesting really. We were in our lesson of the day, Geography when I decided to pretend that I needed the bathroom when I actually took a walk around the corridors and played flappy bird on my phone.

"Hello" A voice caught my attention, I looked up to see it was that Alistair person and rolled my eyes in annoyance," I'm sorry to bother you, but you mind showing me where the auditorium is?" He asked in his formal, posh voice as he pushed back his rayban reading glasses.

"Sure" I sighed in annoyance and lead the way down as I heard his foot steps behind me and we went down a number of stairs, walked along a long hallway leading to the tuckshop area and turned around the corner where the auditorium was in awkward silence.

"May I ask what your name is?" He asked politely, too politely.

"I'm Kyler" I sighed and crossed my arms across my chest with an unimpressed look," And you're Alistair"

"Yes, yes I am. It's nice to meet you, Kyler" He said sticking his hand out as a gesture to shake my hand. But I frowned and just stared at it as he shifted uncomfortably," Seriously?" I finally spoke up.

"What's wrong" He frowned, his hand still stuck out towards me.

"Handshakes?" I scoffed.

"My apologies" He said with a surprised face and immediately pulled his hand away," Is it wrong of me to do so?" He asked worriedly.

"No" I shook my head,"We just don't do that kind of shit around here. We fist pound and high five"

"Oh, my apologies. I'm still getting used to this environment" He scratched the back of his neck nervously.

"What? is it a down grade from what you usually go for?" I retorted

"No. I'm just not used to being around so many people. I attended a homeschooling center since I was young and we when moved my parents felt that I should socialize with people my age" He smiled sadly. And I felt like a real dick after assuming that.

"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't know" I replied awkwardly and stuffed my hands in my pockets.

"It's alright. not a lot of people do." he bit his lip," Um, But thank you for your help" He smiled.

"Anytime" I lied.

"It's been nice meeting you" He waved as he made his way into the building.

"You too" I lied again.
