Awkward

When I got home I immediately started texting Rita asking what homework we had, even though I wasn't going to bother doing it; I'm sure there was something interesting that I might put effort in doing.

There was some art project about Andy Worehole where we had to create a picture and do one of his techniques with it, so I settled on that and began drawing my skateboard.

"Kyler? Are you home dear?" I heard my mother calling from downstairs.

"Yes ma, I'm here" I mumbled as I got off my bed to go to her. She was carrying a number of bags of groceries.

"Would you mind helping me take the groceries out the car?" She struggled as she tried to place a huge watermelon on the counter.

"Okay" I shrugged and did what I was told.

"Where's Rita" My mom asked as she packed the fruits away.

"Ug, why does everyone keep asking about her? What about me?" I asked in annoyance.

"Oh, honey I'm sorry. She's just a really nice girl" She cooed

"Am I not nice?" I pouted

"What matters most is that we have our health" She avoided the question and laughed at her own joke.

"You're so lame" I glared at her and went to my room before she could reply.

When I went back to my room I saw I got a missed call from Rita so I immediately called her back.

"Hey my bitch" She answered.

"Right back at you" I retorted

"Touche" She laughed," So what are you up to this weekend" She asked casually, I could tell she was stuffing her mouth with some sort of food.

"Um, not much really. why?'

"I was thinking of having a little get together. My dad is away for a week, you know being a lawyer and all. So I might as well take the opportunity to make the most out of it. So are you in?"

"I guess" I shrugged, "Sounds good"

"Good, see you tomorrow bitch" She said before she hung up before I could reply.

The next day went pretty well, I got 60% in one of my cycle tests and I didn't even study. It just goes to show that you just need to listen, or maybe Rita is just good at explaining things.

"I honestly cant wait for this week to end already, and it's only Tuesday" I whined as I walked along the corridors with Lyam.

"Just have patience my man." He replied simply and began eating his sandwich,"Ey, You know that new kid is going to hang out with us today" He said with his mouth full.

"What? why?" I frowned as we neared the area behind the tennis court, we usually spend our breaks.

"Because you know Rita likes to be nice to everyone and make them feel at home. So she asked him to hang out with us for the week"

"The whole week?" I grimaced.

"Yeah. Why? don't you like him?"   He frowned.

"Not at all" I mumbled. I sat down next to Rita on the small hill going down to the tennis court behind some trees and ignored Alistair's presence.

"Kyler, this is Alistair. Alistair this is Kyler" Rita smiled sweetly at both of us.

"Yes. We've met before" Alistair smiled awkwardly. He didn't seem like the kind of guy who smiles.

"Yep" I replied avoiding his eye contact. Alistair tried socializing with me and asking me a few questions every now and again, but I just gave him one word answers. I could tell that he was a bit hurt and confused, and he was really was trying hard to get to know me; which I felt pretty bad about. But I just wasn't in the mood whenever he was around.

There was just something weird about him that annoyed me.

"Do you attend debating?" Alistair asked as we went to our last lesson of the day.

"Yes" I sighed," Why?"

"I was thinking of trying it out for a bit. Is it alright if I come with you?" He asked nervously

"Fine" I rolled my eyes.

"Thank you" He nodded his head.

"Anytime, bro" I lied.
