"Hey" I said through gritted teeth, I cant believe this but the guilt was eating me alive.
"Hello" Alistair looked up at me from his book and pushed up his glasses.
"Erm" I cleared my throat and stared at the floor, "I just wanted to apologise for snapping at you and saying I'm not your friend. I think I'm kind of your friend" I shifted uncomfortably
"It's alright" He said reading his book again, "My parents just keep persisting me about making a friend. But I realized I'm better off without one, I would rather be alone then having a number of friends who secretly despise me"
I didn't know how to respond to that, It kind of caught me off guard. So I just whispered bye and went to my next lesson.
"Uh. So you do karate?" I tried to start the conversation.
"Yes, yes I do" Alistair smiled slightly, "I wasn't good at a lot of things so I just focused my time on that"
School had ended half an hour ago and there weren't a lot people worth socializing with so I just settled on the Alistair person.
"Oh. Well you seem like a pretty smart person" I shrugged," Are you good at academics and stuff?"
"I presume so" He nodded in approval.
"Why do you talk so posh like?" I finally figured out what so annoying about him. All his proper grammar and use of complicated words just annoyed me because most of time I had no idea what on earth he was saying and I think he was just doing it to show off how unworthy we were to be in his presence.
"You mean the fundamentals of my formal manner of speech?"
"Yes!" I laughed, finally happy I knew what was weird about him; it finally clicked," It's fucking annoying"
"My apologies. I was brought up in this manner" he shrugged," Is it bad?"
"No" I laughed again," It's just....adolescents of this generation are simple minded, they can't process such words as everyday language. They only utilize them when they try to sound intelligent, which they aren't" I explained, surprised with my ability to speak just as formal as him.
"Oh" he said in an understanding manner," You know that really does explain a lot. So how do you suggest I should speak?"
"Just say simple words, or even better: slang"
"Contractions and phrases that a certain community uses as the "lingo?" " He asked
"Oh my fuck" I face palmed my self," Don't ever talk like that unless you're in a debate" I ordered
"Okay" He nodded in concentration, "So what do you think I'm going to get out of this if I change the way I speak?" He said slowly as he tried to replace the formal words he would normally use with more simple ones.
"It'll be easier for you to socialize with the girls, they already think you're hot. You just need to flaunt it" I frowned at myself for saying that phrase, "Change your style a bit you know?"
"So you think it'll assist my inability to talk to girls?"
"Yeah" I agreed,"Exactly"
I didn't really know why I was bothering to help him, but I figured since I'm his 'friend' I had to prove it in someway and give him a chance.
"Cool" He said the word as if it had never been on his lips before,"Cool" he grinned, I've never seen him grin but it was nice to know I did that.
"Yes, uber cool" I replied
"Uber cool?" He repeated
"Tots" I smirked
"Meaning totally, am I right?"
"Yebo" I gave him the double gun shot hand gesture.
"Why are you pretending to shoot me" He stared at me blankly.
"No" I laughed, "it's a hand gesture used put a spot light on someone. As if to say,"You the man" Kind of thing" I did it again
"I'm the man?" He questioned and copied my gesture.
"You the man" I laughed
"No, You the man" He pointed back at me
"I guess it's nice to be the man"
"Tots" I agreed.
We heard a hoot outside and we turned around to see a silver Austin Martin car. Damn, his parents must be loaded; I've always wanted a super rich friend. Maybe....maybe I wouldn't mind hanging out with him.
"Oh, that's my dad" He explained and grabbed his bags, "I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Tots" I brought my hand towards him to do a fist pound, he seemed to get the message as he did the same thing and quickly pressed his knuckles against mine and smiled in victory.
"Thanks" He called out before he got into the car.
"Anytime bro" I shouted back.
And this time....this time I didn't lie.
