"Park Life" I heard Rita gasp over the phone,"That is not fair!"
"Well, I was invited so I'm going to go" I laughed," You're having a great time in Namibia though right?"
"Of course I am" She scoffed," You're missing out on the cuties over here"
"I think I'm doing fine thanks, doing a hell of a lot better stuff" I joked.
"So how's it been with Alistair?" She mused
"Its actually...great" I blushed hard and felt my stomach churn as I said that, embarrassed I would admit that hanging out with him is cool.
"You see? Not that bad after all" She laughed, I could imagine her winking," I got to go now bitch, I've got a 2 o'clock fancy lunch appointment going on and I don't want to miss it" She informed me, "Bye bitch"
"Bye" I laughed as I hung up the phone.
"Kyler!" My mom called from the kitchen.
"Yes ma!" I replied.
"Alistair is here for you" She squealed. She's more than happy that I've been hanging out with Alistair, I've been going to less parties if any and she's very pleased about that. I hate to admit it, but I don't really mind being with Alistair anymore, sure he always finds a way to make situations awkward between us but we have a good time together.
I fixed my hair before running down to the door and standing face to face with Alistair," Hello" He waved awkwardly at me.
"Hey" I replied and stared at the floor. For some reason it was always the greeting that was awkward between us, then we would get more comfortable in each other's presence only for awkwardness to happen all over again the next time we spent the day together.
"Are you ready?" He asked and played with his thumbs.
"Yeah sure" I nodded," Let's go" We set off to his mom's car that was parked just outside the driveway, a silver Bentley waiting for us," Nice car" I complimented. He opened the door for me and I suddenly felt really awkward about that, as if we were on a date, but I ignored the feeling and got in the car anyway. The inside was silver and grey leather, very spacious and had mini televisions built in at the back of the front seats.
"Hello Kyler" Margaret greeted me cheerfully.
"Hi" I said shyly and tried to get used to the environment of the car.
"Okay" She smiled, "Let's get going shall we?"
I nodded and looked at Alistair as he slid in the seat next to me. He had his glasses back on, but his hair was still loose and wild. He wore a loose black shirt and dark blue skinny jeans and 'All Star' sneakers. It was weird seeing him with casual clothes on because he always dressed so preppy, but it wasn't bad.
The trip there was comfortably quiet, with the soft music of ShortStraw playing in the background while Margaret explained her job to me, which she seemed to enjoy doing.
When we got to the place, the stages was still being cleaned, equipments were still being set up and bands were still arriving, but there was already a relevant amount of people showing up and shouting for their favourite bands. They also seemed kind of drunk.
"So, uh, how long have you been coming here?" I asked Alistair once we settled down in the shaded VIP section while Margaret disappeared for the rest of the day to backstage.
"About 4 years" He shrugged with and started fiddling with his hands.
"And you just sit here by yourself?" I frowned. He nodded and continued being fixated by his own hands.
