As the week went on Alistair was a bit okayish to hang out with. He always went on about mystery novels and drawing anime and shit, He didn't bother me as much but it's going to take a while for me to get used to him.
I guess it's really all because he's so formal and proper, I thought he would turn out to be a snob. But at the moment he isn't, but girls are always surrounding him while he just awkwardly stands there with his glasses and his blazer all buttoned up, good posture and his blonde hair in a push back. Ugh.
Why cant I get girls like that? I mean he doesn't even know how to socialize with them. I might be a little rough around the edges, a bit of gangster in my blood and I'm respected because I'm coloured; and we are quite the dangerous. But I can be a gentleman when I need to.
"Do you like karate?" Alistair asked me one Thursday afternoon as we sat by the benches together waiting for debating to begin.
"I don't know" I shrugged, "Why?"
"Well, I was wondering if you would like to come to my tournament this weekend" He looked at me hopefully through his glasses.
"Look, Alistair. Just because I hang out with you does not mean I'm your best friend all of a sudden" I glared at him," Besides I got plans this weekend anyway" I didn't even know he did karate.
"Oh." He whispered and stared at his feet," Would you at least be my closest acquaintance?"
"I don't know, maybe"
"Okay" He smiled slightly and played with his fingers.
I have to admit, I felt pretty shitty after saying that to him.

It was finally Friday and even better, we just finished school. People were rushing through the corridors, getting out their books from their lockers as fast as they could to get to the gates first in order to go home and start the weekend.
I wasn't rushing though, nope. I decided to take my time and just stroll through the school since my dad always picked me up late; one by one the crowd finally died down and I made my way to the gate. I haven't talked to Alistair since the conversation yesterday and the more I thought about it the worse I felt.
"And he keeps asking me to be his friend, then he hangs out with my friends and suddenly he thinks we're best friends" I complained to my mom with a mouth full of sponge cake
"Well you said he used to be homeschooled right?" My mom questioned as she went around the kitchen to look for tomatoes.
"Yes" I nodded and carried on eating the cake. Damn, this woman makes some good food.
"It sounds like he's just desperate for some friends honey. Plus he's just moved all the way from Cape Town, give him a break; remember when you were still new in the school?"
"Yes" I growled, "But that was because someone made a rumor about me before the year even began"
"But either way, not many people wanted to socialize with you for months on end, So you were forced to prove yourself and gain respect through all this sports and socializing. And look where you are now" She pointed out.
"And it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Rita who could see the potential in you when nobody did" She added on.
"Whatever" I mumbled
"Baby just give him a chance. I'm sure he's not nearly as bad as you make him seem"
So I couldn't really focus on the little party that was happening at Rita's mansion because my mind kept making me feel really guilty. Not even the hot girls in the booty shorts and crop tops made me feel better, not even the alcohol and definitely not the amazing music with the powerful bass vibrating through the floors helped.
Damn you, guilt.
