"Hey my love!" Rita greeted me with a kiss the next day at school, we were all wearing sunglasses and Rita's voice made me wince.
"Why are you talking so loud" I complained.
"I'm not" She argued
"You are" I whispered.
"Are you hung over?" She raised an eyebrow
"Just a bit" I groaned," But I'll be fine.
I lied. I wasn't fine at all. Everything caused my head to buzz but I tried my best to hide it even though the sunglasses were obvious enough, it was so bad I even went to the bathroom that no one goes to, to have a moment of silence.
I went to the sink and looked at myself in the mirror, my skin was pale and I had pretty big eye bags underneath my eyes. I splashed some water on my face to make myself look just a tad better, just as I was about to leave I saw a pair of black shoes sticking of one of the cubicles.
Okay, I know I shouldn't be curious. I was just surprised because nobody else knew about this place as far as I knew. I decided to leave the person alone cause it would pretty awkward if they were taking a crap or something and I wanted to find out who it was. who the hell meets someone like that?
I spent the rest of the school day blocking out the teacher's voices because they made far too much noise, eventually when school ended I was surprised to see my dad waiting for me outside. He usually comes to pick me up late, but I was more than happy to go now.
"Hey daddy" I groaned as I crawled into the backseat.
"Hey son, what's wrong?" He asked concerned
"Nothing" I lied," Just a bad headache"
"You should rest it out, I hear you guys had a pretty hectic weekend" He smiled as we neared the house.
"Totally" I agreed and climbed out the car.
Rita came over a few hours later because she felt like it, but I knew deep down inside she came here for my mom's food. Greedy pig.
"Soooo, what happened this weekend?" Rita asked as she sat sideways on my lap.
"Gaming, Parkour, Alcohol. The usual" I shrugged. I didn't bother asking about what Rita and Alistair did in the last few weekends, I think it was for the best.
1 dish of sushi and 2 dishes of cheesecake later Rita said her goodbyes and went back home, as soon as she did I ran to my room and slept for a rather long time.

The next day I kind of skipped school, not fully but partially if that makes any sense. I walked around the school during classes and sat behind the tennis courts by myself to hide away from anyone. I decided to go the bathroom that nobody went to because I needed to check if my face was improving in any way.
When I entered I saw the same pair of black shows in one of cubicles, my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to knock on it. Maybe the guy was unconscious .
"Hello?" I knocked on the door.
"Yes?" I heard Alistair's voice on the other side
"Alistair? Is that you?" I gasped
"Indeed" He didn't sound nervous or unphased by the fact that we were having a conversation through a cubicle.
"What are you doing in there?"
"I enjoy arriving here in my free time during school to have some piece and quiet while participating in my mystery novels" He informed me.
"You read mystery novels in the bathroom that nobody knows about at break?" I simplified
"Indeed" He concluded.
"But why in the bathroom?"
"So no one knows where I am. Not a lot of people bother to look for me anyway"
I felt really guilty for some reason when he said that.
"Well" I cleared my throat," I was looking for you at school last week. But I didn't see you anywhere" I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly as I pressed my back to the door.
"Oh. I was attending a karate tournament in Durban" He stated.
I was about to ask why he didn't tell anybody. But I realized nobody really bothered to ask. I felt like a real dick.
"Oh, cool." I replied after a moment of silence and sat down near the cubicle door," Did you win any medals?"
"Yes, yes I did." I heard him turning the page of his book," You know Kyler, if you're trying to make up for what happened between us it's okay. I forgive you, I don't want you to be my acquaintance simply because you pity me" He said in his monotone voice
"No. It's not like that" I said insecure, "I mean, I am sorry for that, I really am. But I just...I don't know" I shrugged, I actually didn't know why I was trying to socialize with him anyway.
"Felt like accompaniment that isn't boisterous?" He asked casually.
".....Yeah..." I dragged out the word," Something like that"
"Okay" I heard him smile, I could really hear it," That's legitimate enough"
Just then bell rang, indicating that break was over and we had one more lesson before school ended.
"Well, it's been enjoyable socializing with you Kyler. But you don't have to accompany me everyday, unless you want to, which I highly doubt" He stated.
"I don't mind" I shrugged as I stood up facing the cubicle," Do you want me to walk with you..." I asked awkwardly.
"No it's alright, I'll go out in my own time"
"Okay" I slowly walked out of the bathroom and went back to the tennis courts. When the day ended I tried looking for him at the gates but I didn't see him anywhere.
For some reason I spent most of my Tuesday wondering what Alistair does in his spare time at home.
