"Clara, what should we do?" Mira asked, panic in her eyes.

"For once...I don't know." she replied. Joseph's head was still in her lap, and he began to lose conscious. He closed his eyes.

"Is he dead?"

"No."

"Then think of something!"

"No, YOU think of something. Just because I'M the daughter of Athena doesn't mean I have to do all the planning! You know how hard it is to keep you from doing stupid things in the past? It's your turn!" Clara huffed. "I'll stay here and make sure he doesn't die. You do the figuring out!"

"Maybe I will! Maybe I'll be so good at figuring it out that we won't even need you!" Mira shouted.

Clara's eyes got a little wide, but them she dug into her backpack and pulled out ambrosia.

"Wha-"

"I wanted to see what you really thought of me!" Clara yelled. She put a bit in Joseph's mouth then tossed the bag with the rest at Mira. "Here!" she said, then she turned and walked away.

Mira stared after her for few moments, but then she just waited for Joseph to come around again.

"Mmrf..hey." he said finally. "OH MY GODS, did anybody kiss me?"

"No, your mouth is dirty because we fed you ambrosia." Mira replied.

Joseph stood up and looked around. "Where did Clara go?" he asked, glaring.

"She's gone. We can make our own plans." Mira replied, annoyed.

"Are you crazy? You let her go off on her own? Yeah, she's a great fighter with her sword and brain but not without a team!" he shouted.

"But-"

"What?"

"She left saying we could make our own plans."

"Well, she was wrong because you can't even think to go get her back. Now is not the time for BFF fights!" Joseph said. He picked up his two daggers and started running along the road. Mira followed him, feeling regret.

Clara threw a drachma into the river. "Oh, Isis, goddess of the rainbow. Accept my offering." she said. "Connect me to Chiron!"

The rainbow image began to swirl, but then it stopped. Instead of showing Chiron, it disappeared and her money came back from the river.

"Clara!" a girl shouted.

She turned around. "Mira?" she asked.

Mira gave her a big hug. "I'm sorry!" she said.

Joseph caught up to them and then just waited.

Clara hugged him anyways. "You're alive!"

"I don't like hugs." he grumbled.

"So...what do we do to get to Los Angeles?"

Clara turned around. "The camp has been taken over. I tried to message Chiron but he didn't pick up."

"What?" Joseph and Mira shouted.

"I know! So, are we going to keep heading to Tartarus or help the campers?"

They stared at her.

"Oh..." she said, then grinned. "OK, camp's a bad idea because if two hundred demigods were taken down, three will be easy. Hades isn't an Olympian so he may still be safe." She finished.

Mira nodded, and Joseph gave a thumbs up. Clara looked to Mira. "Do you think you can call a ride?" She asked, looking at the water.

Mira nodded, then jumped down and whistled softly like wind. One huge hippocampus came up, large enough to carry five people. "Hi there! We need to get to Los Angeles!" Mira cheered.

The hippocampus lowered itself for everyone to get on. The little reunited team slowly slipped on, with Mira in front to steer and Joseph in the back, with Clara stuck in the middle.

"Mira, where are we on the map?" Clara asked over the waves.

"San Francisco." she answered.

"WHAT? Weren't we in Lake Tahoe?" Joseph shouted.

"You fell asleep in the car. The monster drove for hours." Mira explained.

The hippocampus swam along the water, scales glittering and reflecting the moon, which was actually giving way to dawn. "Excuse me, can we sleep on your back?" Mira asked.

It nodded at her. Of course. I have a huge back!

The trio lied down, finally closing their eyes to sleep.
