So many tunnels before them, one leading towards their goal. But, which to choose?
"Any suggestions?" Joseph asked.
"Whichever looks promising." Mira replied."
More footsteps were coming. They came from the passage all the way to the right, five in total.
"Let's just go that way once they pass." Clara whispered, her voice barely louder than the wind.
They crept along the walls watching a group of Dracaenae pass by. They slithered along the corridors, their noise covering the demigods.
For those of you who are wondering, I'm using monsters from the series.
Mira slid across the ground using water while Joseph and Clara had to carefully walk on the stone.
"We made it!" said Mira, relieved.
"Can we make it past this puzzle?" asked Joseph. He was up ahead staring at a small stand where a plaque was, along with some bones.
Clara peered closely at the inscription on the plaque.
Use wit to beat this game,
Seven's your best number today.
"It's a puzzle..." she mumbled.
"I know!" Joseph mumbled.
"Seven..wit..." Mira started throwing words around. "What if you put seven bones down?"
Joseph counted seven and placed them on the plaque. Nothing happened.
"That's too simple. There's more than one way to read riddles." said Clara.
Joseph sighed and leaned back...knocking the bones down in the process. "Oops!"
Mira knelt to clean up. "Ha ha, look! They landed as a W!"
"W!" Clara squealed, standing up.
"Uh, yeah, the twenty third letter of the alphabet." Mira replied, a bit flushed.
"What? Oh, no, it's W-I-T! Seven lines spell the word wit!" Clara was jumping around saying this.
Joseph put the bones down to spell WIT. A wall opened nearby, and a voice spoke. "Welcome. And, which squad is this?" Another Dracaenae was sitting with her back to them, the words coming out in a hiss.
"Squ-"
The lady turned around, and Mira shrieked. She just stared blankly. "You don't smell like my kind..."
"She's blind!" Joseph said.
"Whisper!" Clara scolded.
"I am!"
"Are not!"
"Now, you're both quietly screaming." said Mira.
"Well? Which squad?" said the Dracaenae again.
Mira walked up and began to speak in a gruff voice. "You know, I just noticed you are blind. We've always walked by you and you didn't notice us. Forgive me and my crew. We are the messenger team!"
She stared at them. "Very well. I'll write you in." she said finally.
Joseph grabbed the girls shoulders and they ran past the monster. "Thank you!" he called as they left.
"That was close." Clara muttered.
The new tunnel seemed more decorated than before, proving they were on the right path.
"Augh!" Mira yelled. Her foot dangled over a fifty feet drop, but she steadied herself.
They looked up. Ahead was a gap to big to jump across, even fly. Ropes were going in a straight line across the hole, something a tightrope walker would enjoy.
"This would be easy if you had snake feet." said Clara.
"They could just cling to it." Mira added.
"Hey!"
"Speak of the Hades..." muttered Joseph. "Run!"
More Dracaenae were crossing the ropes towards them. Their cover had been blown.
"Come here pleasssssee!"
"Ssssssorry if you get hurt!"
"Die, ssssssscum!"
"Move!" Mira shouted. They bent and grabbed the rope, moving along which their hands. They were making good progress, but Clara's prediction was right. Dracaenae moved pretty fast on the rope.
The feeling came back in Joseph's fingers. It couldn't be controlled when he felt fear. "No." was all he could say before he burned the rope, and Clara, Mira, and Joseph began to fall.
