"This is the part where you find out who you are."
••••••••••
"You got her number!?" I smile and bite my straw. "Yes." I answer for about the thousandth time. A blush begins to snake across my cheeks. Bridgette smiles back at me.The tattooist gave me her number, and to be honest, I wasn't surprised. She was checking me out.
"Are you going to call her!?" Bridgette exclaims.
I shake my head. "There's a guy...that I'm kinda interested in."
"Oh my gosh who!?" Bridgette waves her hands in the air and almost knocks her drink over.
I giggle. She was quite outgoing once she's had a few drinks.
"His name is Chris. But I don't want a relationship right now. And honestly, I don't trust him."
I glance down at my new tattoo. Amy's initials were cursively drawn next to a heart in bold black ink. It was a little swollen and red around the tattoo but it would eventually heal with time if I took care of it.
"Why don't you trust him?" Bridgette asks before taking another sip of her icy green and yellow martini.
"Because all men can hurt you Bridgette." I whole heartedly answer.
She doesn't reply but simply stares at me in question.
"Hey Bridgette, were you adopted?" I ask her. She sets down her glass and leans forward on the counter.
"Yes. My mother adopted me when I was just a baby though. But I kept my birth name. I never looked into my birth family though. She was the only family I had and the only one I care about."
"I'm sorry, and correct me if I'm wrong, But, I think I found your brother."
"A... a brother?" Bridgette stares at me, her mouth open with shock and I nod my head.
And now I just feel stupid for not seeing the resemblance between her and Liam, it was uncanny. Now I just had to call Liam.
•••••••••
Liam and Bridgette looked at each other in total shock. Both their eyes started to tear up.Chris smiled at me.
Yeah, Liam had rushed over as soon as he could and brought Chris with him, apparently now they're all buddy buddy.
"I knew mom had given up a baby, but I never thought I'd see her."
Liam wrapped Bridgette into a tight hug.
"Why was I given up?" Bridgette asked Liam.
"Believe me, mom wanted to keep you, but she was battling a disease and was scared that it would kill her, she didn't want another kid to be affected by it. It's a miracle she even survived it. If she would have known, she would have kept you."
"Can... can I meet her?" She inquired.
Liam took her hands and nodded.
I don't think I've seen Liam this happy since Before Amy was gone.
I hugged both of them by as they started to leave for their mom. I was ecstatic for both of them.
Chris was still here.
I turn instantly and find his tall muscular frame, outlined by the moonlight. His eyes seemed to sparkle like stars.
Then I find myself doing what I least expected of myself.
"Do you want to come up on the roof with me and stargaze?"
He doesn't hesitate. "I'd love to."
•••••••
"Have you always had that tattoo?" Chris gestures towards my wrist. "I got it today."He pulls up his shirt sleeve to show his own tattoo, it's a cross.
"I'm kind of a hardcore Christian." He tells me.
"It's beautiful." I reply in awe. He chuckles and rolls down his sleeve then takes a swig of his beer as he looks up at the stars.
"You see that constellation?" He asks, pointing his finger at three stars, clustered together.
"Yeah Orion's belt. Why?"
"It's not just Orion's belt, it's the three sisters. Legend says, three young women who were sisters were created before the creation of the heavens and of the earth. They were allowed to come to earth at the same time, to be an inspiration for others. And in death, were assigned to be the three stars on Orion's belt. Their given task now, is to watch over the great beauty, power, and energy of the great nebula. Which represents the beauty, power, and energy given to us."
I look up at the three sisters. Beauty, power, and energy.
Amy as energy, mom as beauty, and whoever else as power. Maybe some day, it would be me.
And finally, I felt at peace with the world, like nothing could harm me. As long as the three sisters were watching over me. And more importantly God.
My friends were here too.
And Chris was turning out to be a pretty nice guy.
Maybe everything is alright in the universe, maybe the universe is giving me a sign, saying it's okay, it will all get better. Just give it time.
And for the first time in a long time, I wanted to hear what the universe had to say.
