Chapter 14

It's 4 in the morning and I can't sleep. So much has happened in these last few days... It's been a roller coaster. I try counting sheep's- 1 sheep, 2 sheep, 3 sheep- Argh! I just can't sleep! I'm so exhausted! Let me do something useful instead of being idle. I get up and switch on my laptop. I still have to find more about the ring. I open Google chrome and type in the Damas Jewelers website. I open the 'new designs' link and instantly some pictures of beautiful intricately carved jewelry flashes on the screen. There's a picture of the same ring found in the control room and I click it. I'm directed to a page where all the information that I DON'T need is mentioned. I'll have to go to the administration office to get the information I need. I shut down my laptop and try to sleep but all I can think of is how messed up my life is. After what seemed like hours, I fall asleep only to be woken up by my phone ringing "Hello?" I answer, my voice groggy from sleep "When were you going to tell me?" a male voice demands "Hey Aiden. What are you talking about?" I ask sitting up on my bed "You are marrying Justin? Why didn't you tell me?" "How do you know?" I ask flustered "It's everywhere " he replies. SHIT! "Aiden... I'm sorry.. I just didn't have time... I know it's hard to process.." "You don't want to do this, Do you?" "No I don't" I reply, agreeing "Then why are you doing this?" "Some things are better left unsaid" I whisper "Okay... are you alright after what happened?" he asks obviously referring to the fire "No... I'm shit actually" I reply "I'm worried about you. I'm coming to-" "Aiden, I'm alright. You don't have to worry about me. I'm just a little shaken after what happened but that's normal" I think... "Shriya-" "No really Aiden. I'm fine. umm.. I'll talk to you later okay?" "Okay. Take care" " I will. You too" "Babe, you don't have to tell me that. I ALWAYS take good care of myself" he replies cockily. I roll my eyes "Okay bye" and with that I hang up. I stretch and look at the watch. 7:40 am. SHIT! I can't be late. I get ready in record time and rush downstairs "Oh your awake sweetheart" "yeah mum. I got to hurry. I can't be late" I am just about to run towards the entrance when I hear mum say "Stop right there young lady!" I instantly stop and turn around "Yes mum?" I question "You will go only after you've eaten your breakfast" "Mum, I'll eat it in the office" "No-" "Mum I love you. Okay bye!" I interrupt her and hurriedly go before she stops me again. I get in my car and head for office. "So your saying that the ring should have got damaged due to the fire?" I ask Rodge "Yes ma'am. There should have been some signs of damage but the forensic department found nothing on it" "Okay anything else?" "No ma'am" "Thank You Rodge" He knows that he's being dismissed "I'll keep you informed on the progress" "That'll do" I reply, and with that he leaves. Okay. This confirms that someone was behind the fire but who? If the ring was already there at the time of the fire, it would definitely have got burnt but Rodge said that the ring had no marks of damage. Wait..... this means that the person behind this must have come later and then left the ring behind. SHIT! That means whoever is behind this everything must already know what would be our next step after finding the ring. That person is already one step ahead of us. BULLSHIT! I bang the table in frustration. I hear a knock on the door "Come in" I reply, running my hand through my hair "Ma'am, Mrs. Rodriguez's here" Andrea says "Mum? where is she?" "I'm here sweetheart" Mum replies from behind her. Andrea leaves. "Why did you come here mum? You could have called me-" "Sweetheart we need to go to buy your wedding dress" "Mum, not now-" "No but's.
