"This incident should not get to the paparazzi" I say, in an authoritative voice, feeling anything but that. I was currently at the police station despite the protests of nearly everyone but I had to do this. I had my own motives. Firstly, not letting this incident spread everywhere and secondly, finding out the person behind the call in a very indiscreet manner. "Okay but you should know that this wouldn't be hidden for long. There are simply many witnesses" the dull voice of a police officer answers. "Which is why you are hired. Make sure that this little incident does not make headlines and you'll roll in money" I say, dead-pan. "Yes ma'am." "I want cease the search of the person behind the explosion of one of my warehouses" I whisper so that no one nearby overhears this. "That can't be possible" "I'm sure you've got the resources to do so" I say, aggressively. He gulps. "I hope this remains just between the both of us?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. "Of Course ma'am. I better get going. Good night" "You too" and with that note, the police officer scuttles away. I sigh. I have to give an impression that I've ceased the search or everything's going to be a mess.... I can't let the lives of my loved ones be at a constant threat. One thing I've understood is that surely someone that I'm closely associated to is giving all of the information about my whereabouts and my plans.... but who? I never discuss my plans with anyone except Rodge. What if Rodge.... no... I trust Rodge... he has been employed for 15 years and has been very trustworthy and sincere in his work. Then how come that person knows what my next move is... unless that person is eavesdropping... Yeah! that's it! I need to check the CCTV cameras in my main branch office. 'Don't act so dumb!' my snarky subconscious comments, rolling her eyes. Ugh! why do you always come at the wrong timing? 'No ones jobless to listen to your mindless chatter' she says, blowing on her nails. Why don't you just fuck off? Okay... not eavesdropping exactly... but then how? Ugh! I don't know! I run my fingers through my hair in utter frustration. This is getting me nowhere! I can't have anyone working for me involved in this so that means I'll have to hire someone from outside.... Okay... at least I know what to do next. I head towards the entrance of the station. My head is throbbing but I just had a glass of champagne... forget it. I make my way towards the parking lot where my car is parked. Just as I'm about to open the door of my car, out of my peripheral vision, I see someone behind me. I immediately turn around. Nobody. "Hello?" I say, loudly. I look around carefully but I don't see anyone. I must be more drunk than I thought. I really need to get home. I search for my car keys inside my clutch. I get into the car and start the engine. As I start driving, I see someone hidden behind a four-wheeler who looks like a woman. I make no move to indicate that I've noticed her. As I go forward, my eyes are fixed on the rear mirror so that when she comes out I can figure out if she is someone I know or not. She comes out and I notice that her eyes are on my car. Okay.... this is bad. What if she's spying on me? I squint my eyes to get a better look of her and that's when I realize.... She's wearing a cream colored cardigan awfully similar to the one Lea owns... wait.... HOLY FUCK! THAT'S LEA! The same hairstyle..... the same clothes.... no... That's not possible... but what's she doing here? I see her talk to someone on the phone, smirking. Is she involved in this somehow? That's not possible... but why? Why is she doing this? Stop it Shriya! You just can't think like that! Lea will never.. could never do this! Or can she? Okay.. that's enough! I try to take deep breaths. I reach home and hurriedly get down, slamming the door in the process. Before I get in, I try to look somewhat at ease though my mind is anything but that. With a deep breath, I get in. Everyone's seated in the drawing room. Their heads snap up when they notice me entering. "Hey" I say weakly but with a smile. "How did it go?" Dad asks, looking concerned. "Better than I thought" I mutter. I look around to find Lea. "She's not here" Mum answers, knowing I was looking for Lea. "Where is she then?" I ask, hoping that what I'm thinking isn't true. "She went out without telling anyone. She was pretty annoyed" Jaxon replies, looking worried. "Did you call her?" I ask him. "You don't have to call her cause she's right here" someone says. Lea. I turn around to find her smiling maliciously. My eyes widen when I see that she's wearing the cream colored cardigan. This means that she was at the police station.... And she didn't want me to see her. Why? Lea... what's going on? Why are you following me? but I don't ask that instead "Where were you?" is the only question that somewhat sounds normal. Normal... Doesn't that sound alien? "Out" she replies, discreetly. "I think we've already established that" I say, glaring at her. "Shriya. She has just come home. Let her rest. We can talk about it tomorrow-" Mum abruptly stops when I raise my hand as a gesture that says 'Stop'. "Mum don't get involved in this" I say, my eyes not leaving Lea. "Shriya-" "I said don't get involved Mum" I again stop her, glaring at her and this time my voice holding an undercurrent of something far more dangerous. She gapes at me. My eyes shift back on Lea. "Do you know what the time is?" I ask her, my voice grim. "Don't give a shit about that sister" she says, smirking. "I won't ask this again, What's the time Lea?" I ask, my voice eerily calm, betraying my emotions. She notices my reaction and gulps, her eyes widening a bit. She looks down at her watch and replies "3:30 am" "At such a time, where were you?" "Where would one be at such a time sis? Oh.. I'm sure you haven't heard of a place called a Club!" she remarks sarcastically. "Really? well in that case, you should be reeking of liquor. Interesting isn't it that you don't smell nor look as if you've been drinking?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. Her eyes widen. "Enough Shriya! At least let her come in. Come and sit darling" Mum ushers her in and makes her sit on the couch. "Would you like some water?" "Yes please" she whispers. The entire time I keep glaring at her and in turn everyone's staring at me. "Sweety, I know you were worried about her but I think now is not the time to talk about this... It's late and we've had an eventful day. Why don't you go to bed?" Pattie says, comfortingly. I nod. "I don't know what to do" I whisper. "Your the most sure person I've ever known. I'm sure you'll figure out whatever you need to but now you need to sleep" she says, in a motherly way, caressing my cheeks. Strange isn't it that my mum never behaved this way. All she was concerned about was parties and dresses and manners. Never comfort. I sigh. "Where's Justin?" I ask "He'll come. Come on now, off to bed you go" she commands, smiling. I smile at her and head upstairs. I undress, wear a nightgown hastily and lie down on the bed. In moments I'm fast asleep.
