Chapter 44
Tears
I gathered up the entire blanket, and scrunched it up to my chest. I dug my face into the crumpled duvet, and buried my face into it.
“Kenton, listen, please don’t hurt me. It was not me who murdered Nathan. It was Mitchel,” I told him. I didn’t even know if he was in the room, I just said the words out loud, so he can hear me.
I know he will hear me.
…silence. I could hear a pin drop. I shuttered in fear, when I heard a faint voice…
“Oh, no Carissa, do not apologize to me. Apologize to the King and Queen when you meet them tomorrow night. Guards will come and pick you up, bring you to the palace, and then the fun will start,” he laughed menacingly.
I shot up, to see Kenton standing there with an evil smirk on his face.
I spat, “I’m not going anywhere.”
He laughed, a deep, scary laugh, and then grunted. “You think you can get away from the King and Queen that easily, don’t you, poor little Carissa? Well, it’s not that easy. If I told you what I’ve been through with the French’s, oh dear, you would be weeping over my feet about it,” He grimaced.
“Well, I would like to know your story.”
“We would be here all day.”
“I won’t be getting much sleep anyway, so I can stay up to hear a story,” I said with a small, cold smile.
“If you wish,” he sighed. “When I was a young boy, around the age of nine, I was interested in all of those myths and legends. I knew about the ‘legend of the vampire’ since I was about six, but I studied it more and more when I turned nine.
“Turns out that I got myself hooked. I studied every single thing about the vampire day and night. I wouldn’t get any sleep, but it paid off. When I turned thirteen, my mother and father asked me what I would like to do for my birthday. I said without hesitation, ‘bring me to Transylvania’. They knew it was because of my crazy fetish with vampires, but they disapproved. I was torn, and didn’t come out of my room for weeks.
“My mom finally came into my room, and apologized for crushing my dream, and granted my wish. She told me that we could go to Transylvania. I was so ecstatic, I remember giving my mom and dad foot massages because I was so thankful.
“When the day of our flight came, nothing went right. My grandmother passed away, and my mom and dad told me we had to ditch the flight. I swore to myself that I would never lay my eye on my parents ever again. But, when we were leaving the airport because we had to ditch the flight because of my grandmother’s death, I stayed behind. I stayed at the airport. Silly little mom and dad thought I came home with them, but boy they were wrong as hell.
“I got on that flight, and when I stepped foot in Transylvania, the first thing I saw was an alley. I was scared, and didn’t know where to go, but also ecstatic and happy that my wish had been granted. I decided to explore, and so I entered the alley. I heard some screaming, and when I snapped my head to the direction of the menacing laughter and horrid screaming… a man with dark figures was sucking the blood of a helpless victim. I screamed in terror, and then the vampire dropped the victim, and turned onto me.
