We Found Him

The last few days have gone by in a blur. Worry over Iceland had taken over my sense of memory. He was all I cared about now that I had to distance myself from Mathias, afraid that he could turn anytime now. Whenever I tried to recall the last few days, all I remembered was running best I could to get to him as soon as possible. Even though my leg was still healing.

"Couple more miles now." I heard Mathias say. He was becoming quieter, and less intelligent sounding... Surprisingly...
"I know..." I said in return. I was scared to talk to him now that the infection was making him more hostile. I was a quite a few steps ahead of him, but I felt like he noticed this and was getting frustrated over it, so every once and awhile I'd slow down a bit.

After an hour of walking, or limping rather, cautiously through the nearly-flooding streets of this town, I see a spray-painted building with a few people standing guard in front. I speed up towards them and they ask me what my business is.
"I'm looking for my younger brother. I was told he was in a shelter around here." I said as calmly as possible. My normal emotionless demeanor was being taken over by anxiety. The guardsmen and women looked at me suspiciously.
"Describe him and give a name of you and the brother." They said almost as if they were talking down to me.
"I'm Lukas, my brother is Emil. Emil has silver hair, pale skin, and violet eyes... um... Icelandic accent, too." I said, trying not to stutter. They looked worryingly at each other. I knew this was a bad sign. When they returned their gaze on me, they asked another question.
"Who's that?" They pointed to Denmark.
"That's Mathias. Emil and my's friend." I looked back at Mathias who was speed walking up the hill to meet me.
"Well... about your brother... He's here, but..," They didn't have to finish their sentence for me to know what they were talking about. They looked at me apoplectically. "He's in fairly bad shape so you might not want to-" I cut them off.
"I came here to see my brother, so I'm going to see my brother! No matter his condition." I practically yelled. They reluctantly opened he doors and I walked through. Mathias behind me. I prepared myself for the worst as I began looking for him through the maze of beds. Everyone here looks so close to death that I'm surprised the guards don't just put them out of their misery. I look up and find Iceland. I trip over my own feet slightly trying to run to him.

He looks dead. Shallow, shaky breathing. Cuts all over him. I can see his bones because of how skinny he is. I feel too numb and dizzy to really know what to do now. Mathias walks up and stands next to me, putting a hand over his mouth in shock. I walk to his bedside, and kneel down beside it.
"Emil..." I say barley over a whisper. "Emil, please please wake up. I can't lose you."
"Lose me?" *cough* "I think you forget... who you're... *cough cough* talking to... I am a country... after all..." I look up at him in surprise. His voice is gravely and barely working. I hold his hand. "What're ya cryin' about... Nor...?" He asked. I sat on the edge of his bed and lifted his chest and head into my arms. I could tell he was weak and in pain because he winced when I moved him.
"You're gonna be okay. Everything will be okay..." I whispered to him. I found myself rocking him back and forth. Mathias put a hand on my shoulder. Emil's muscles relaxed a little bit, and I started crying harder into his chest. I didn't realize that Mathias was shaking me and calling my name for awhile.
"Lukas... Lukas. ohgoddammit. Lukas!" I snapped my head back to look at him. Tears streaming down my face. "He's gone."
"No!" I shout. I know he died in my arms, but I can't bring myself to stop rocking him.
"No... nononono! Please," I begin sobbing. "I can't... I just found you... I can't lose you again... " I looked down at Emil's face. His eyes were closed and a small smile was on his face.
A few workers here came up to the bed and after a few minutes, I was forced to lay him back down on the bed. The workers took his body away; probably to cremate it. I don't know why, but I started running out of the building, despite the pain in my leg. I could hear Mathias following me and calling my name, but I didn't care. I ran and ran until I finally collapsed, and Denmark caught me. Trying to soothe me, and calm me down, but something was wrong. He was holding me too tight. I couldn't breathe very well now. Denmark was finally turning. I had to get away from him. I tried pushing him, but all it did was make him angrier. He pushed me to the ground. I looked at his face and could tell that the charismatic man I loved was gone. He was fighting it, but losing Emil probably made him lose hope. I had to act fast or he... it would kill me. I was weak, but luckily the sickness made him weaker and I managed to push him off of me. I got up and tried to run but he grabbed my injured leg and made me fall. In a panic, I turned around, grabbed the gun, and shot... I shot several times before I realized what I was doing.

Before me... on the ground... in a pool of his own blood... was the man that I loved. And I just killed him. I scooted away and few inches. Not believing my own eyes.
'He's gone... its over...' I thought. I backed into an alleyway across from the crime, hugged my knees and cried.
'I need to find Sweden and Fin... I need to tell them what's happened.'
"Ow!" I said as I squeezed my fist tighter. I looked down at my hand and between my index finder and my thumb... was a bloody bite...
"Fucking shit. Oh no. Oh no oh god fucking- Mathias bit me." I started panicking.
"No. I can't let myself turn. I can't..." I walked over to Mathias' body and shakily raised the pistol to my head. It was sad, but it's what I had to do.

BAM. I pulled the trigger... and fell to the ground. Next to the man I love. Close to the brother I lost.

      And I smiled.

'See, Lukas? I told you you couldn't run forever. Welcome back. The others are soon to join us, seeing as they're in a bit of trouble~

Ehehehe~'

I saw Mother Earth. And those that I had lost throughout the thousands of years I'd been alive... and in the distance there was...

      "MATHIAS! EMIL!"
