A few days had passed (December 23rd) and Echo was showing signs of recovery just beautifully. Her cheeks were flushed pink now that blood was circulating more through her body, or possibly it was because it was winter time and it was cold. Either way, it was a positive thing to note, she was becoming responsive, wiggling her fingers as Clarke and Roan tried speaking to her to see if she could wake up.
I left the medical bay and went out into the camp to see what I could help out with, and because I knew Bellamy was somewhere lurking about.
"Miller, we'll need those parts so just put it where we put the rest of the stuff." The gruff deep tone of that voice was a sound I could recognize in the middle of war.
"Hey Bellamy." I pushed my long black hair behind my ear, slightly rocking back and forth on my heels and batting my lashes unknowingly.
He rose his eyebrow and just barely looked up, "hey Rachel," he straightened himself so he was standing up completely rather than hunched over the firewood he was chopping. He was shirtless and sweaty...so, so, SO sweaty. Droplets of sweat came dropping from his curly black hair and onto his face, traveling down the crevices of his broad chest. His abs at ease but defined as if they were flexed, and the "V" that stopped right before the the top of his pants made me a little hot and bothered as ungodly thoughts crowded my mind.
"What's going on?" I asked trying to contain myself, "I mean like what's up?" I tilted my chin up and crossed my right foot over my left attempting to be cool like Jessica taught me. But being me I fell over and landed in the firewood Bellamy had chopped. OUCH.
Bellamy only laughed. Thank the gods for these blessing today, I thought to myself. "Here Rachel, let me help you up." He extended his hand, "and uh nothing much, you?"
"Nothing." Oh for fucks sake Rachel! Play it cool, I yelled internally to myself. "So..."
"So?" He was staring at me, that stare he always does. The Bellamy stare, where he just stands there and just....he stares! LORD HAVE MERCY ON MY OVARIES!
"So you ready for the mission once Echo heals?"
His lips formed a flat line as I spoke those words, "yeah. I'm ready for some answers."
"Answers to what?"
"Octavia and I have been talking. Why Jessica let her go and all of that? She's right, it doesn't make sense. None of it, was it a game? Is this a plan to destroy Skaikru? Get us off our game?"
"I don't think so..." I said optimistically.
"Why are you on her side?" Bellamy asked a bit defensively.
"I'm not on her side, but she's my friend."
"She's not your friend, Rachel. She could have killed you."
"What are you talking about?!"
"If she went through with the war, do you really think she would have told her men to save you? Sure we all may have been born on space but whatever bond you think you and Jessica have, forget about it! She was raised in Azgeda, you heard what she said. Blood must have blood. You would have died that night had she not backed off."
"But I didn't, Bellamy. No blood was spilled. Octavia is safe. I'm safe. We're ALL safe. She's my friend...well at least I hope she sees me as her friend."
"You're just some girl she helped along the way, you mean nothing to her. You're just someone to help her out when she needs to do dirty work that's it, Rachel. The sooner you realize this, the better off you'll be."
Bellamy went back to chopping wood and I couldn't help but ponder on the thought that maybe he was right.
