After everyone had left the hall, Jessica and I were the only two left. I wasn't sure if she knew I was still here until she heavily sighed and turned to half heartedly smile at me.
"How are you, Rachel?" Her voice sounded worn down as if the weight of the world rested on her shoulders.
"I've been better. And you?"
"Same." She took a deep breath before continuing, "what can I help you with?"
"Uhm, how about answering some of my unresolved questions..." I said hesitantly.
Her smile grew as she came and took a seat next to me, "don't be so afraid of me, Rachel. I know I can be a little...temperamental, but I don't wish to hurt you."
I nodded and smiled back, "so I guess my first question is, we're friends right? Like you're not just nice to me cause it's for your own personal thing or whatever?"
"Yes. I consider you as a friend."
"Okay good!" I felt a little more relaxed, "second question, why'd you let Octavia go?...I know we tried to go over this at dinner but-"
"I went too far. And when I realized what I was doing I pulled myself back." She answered not allowing me to finish my sentence. Her body grew tense as she furrowed her eyebrows in concentration. Her eyes making direct eye contact with mine as she waited for me to respond.
"Right, I guess what I'm trying to get at is what made you realize you needed to pull back?"
She pondered to herself for a bit before looking back up at me. "If I show you something..."
My eyes lit up with curiosity and a surge of energy coursed through my veins, "I swear I won't tell anyone! You have my word!...what is it though?"
"It's not so much a what...as it is more of a who..."
"WHO?!" My mind was racing a million miles a second until it hit me. OMFG, this bitch! I looked at her with both my eyebrows raised, eyes widened, head slightly tilted and lips slightly pursed.
She looked at me strangely given the facial features I must have been giving her, "what is it Rachel?"
She was forcing me to say it. But my mind was saying not to, "you." I wagged my finger at her and shook my head in disapproval.
"I what?!"
Looking around to make sure no one was around eavesdropping, I took a deep breath and whisper-yelled at her, "you were cheating on Roan the whole time?!?!???"
Her face dropped and stared at me bewildered, "Rachel, I-"
"No!" I was still whisper-yelling at her only now I was getting a bit frustrated with her casual attitude. Who did she think she was? She's my friend but so is Roan...or at least I think he is. "You've been cheating on Roan! So what? When you came looking for Roan was it all a lie? Were you lying to him about loving him? Because he sure as hell is still in love with you!"
"Rachel, will you please calm down? I'm not nor was I ever cheating on Roan..." there was a slight falter to her tone but I brushed it off.
"OH," my face flushed with embarrassment, "then I take back everything I said about you."
She only chuckled with amusement, "will you just come and follow me please? I promise you'll find out soon. But remember, our little secret."
"Our secret, got it."
