"Watch your footing, young prince," I was watching Confid as he trained Rover on the courtyard, the sky turning a orange and purple color as the afternoon sky turned into the evening, "lurch forward and then back. Be patient and skillful, know when to attack but know when to stay put."
"HMPPHH HYAAAA!" Rover grunted as he practiced his sword fighting skills; his actual sword replaced with a wooden stick for training purposes. Noticing that I was standing above him he looked up and waved, "hi mommy!"
*SLAP* "never leave yourself open for an attack." I couldn't help but feel sorry for my son but also giggle as Confid had said the same thing to Roan once many many years ago.
Just as Confid was about to say something else I noticed the guards I had sent out to fetch Echo were making their way back through Azgeda's gates. "Confid, take Rover in. Now."
Realizing the urgency in my tone, Confid swept Rover away so they could focus on more of his training inside. Swiftly I turned making my way to the throne room where I would soon meet my men. Within a few minutes later, I was met face to face with them.
"What have you, guards?" I commanded.
"We come bearing prisoners." My lead guard, Tethos, said.
"Prisoners? Someone intervened on your mission?"
"Not necessarily, Gona."
"So what good will they do me as prisoners? You should have let them be."
"They did not intervene with us finding Echo, they just wouldn't let us leave with her...alone."
"Who is 'they?'" No one answered, "I ask one more time before I cut your heads off, who is 'they?'"
Tethos nodded his head at the guards by the door, signaling them to open it. In came Echo followed by 8 other people chain linked together with bags over their heads. I didn't need to see their faces to know who 'they' were. 'They' were Skaikru. And one of them was Roan.
Tethos unveiled them and kicked them all down so they were on their knees, all except Echo, who stood tall as she waited for me to speak.
"Echo."
"Your highness." She addressed as she bowed before me.
"Care to explain how you ended up with Skaikru?"
"I was attacked in the woods, Bellamy brought me into their camp after finding me." Her voice quavered as she spoke as if she was scared that she would be punished for letting Skaikru help heal her.
"Right," I looked over at Bellamy who stared at me intently, still on his knees, "thank you for taking care of our Echo, Bellamy." His eyes widened with surprise at my words.
"Tilla! Acacia!" I called for my ladies in waiting, "take Echo here to get cleaned up and bring her a new wardrobe. It was honorable for Skaikru to lend you their clothing but I believe Azgedan fur would better suit you during this winter season here in Azgeda. Don't you think?"
Echo only nodded and smiled as she followed Acacia and Tilla into the guest bedroom, leaving me with the guards and the 'prisoners.'
"Shall we lock the prisoners up?" Tethos asked.
"No...unchain them. And get them cleaned up."
"GONA..." Tethos answered appalled.
"Don't make me say it again, Tethos. You're pushing your ranks, do as I say. They dine with me and Confid tonight."
"What about-"
"NO."
"I'll see you all at the dining hall."
Before anyone could say anything else, I stormed off into my room to find Rover waiting patiently for me.
"Hi mommy."
"Hi baby. Mommy has guests over tonight so you'll be having dinner with Lochta and Ethan's family ok?"
"Why can't I have dinner with you and your friends?"
"Because it's business."
"Whats that?"
"Something you don't have to worry about. Dinner at Lochta and Ethan's. Don't go roaming about!"
"Ok mommy."
