I was last second to last at joining to group at the dining hall. Every spot had been taken except two, as Jessica had not yet arrived. There was a seat at the head of the table and an open one to the right of that chair. I left the seat at the head of the table for Jessica and opted to sit in the one across from Confid.
At last, the double doors open and Jessica came in. Her Azgedan shawl draping over her left shoulder down to her ankles, just barely touching the floor. She took her seat and greeted all of us with a nod as the servants brought in our dinner.
"Well?" She said raising an eyebrow, "are you not going to eat the food?"
Bellamy scoffed, "how do we know you didn't poison it?"
Jessica only smiled and chuckled to herself, "you can starve for all I care. I just thought it'd be nice to serve you some food but I can have my people take it away, it's fine."
"No!" Monty said a little to eagerly, "I'll try it. Just don't take the food away, please."
"Go on then."
Monty took the first bite and chewed slowly as if waiting for something bad to happen, it'd been a minute since he'd finish swallowing that we all agreed to eat the food. I knew from the start Jessica wouldn't have poisoned the food. A blade, sure but never food, it left too much of a trace when trying to kill someone.
"So..." Kane started as we all began to slow down eating.
"So?" Jessica repeated.
"We have some issues we would like to go over with you."
"Issues?" Jessica raised her eyebrows at Kane.
"Why'd you let me go?" Octavia interjected.
"Did you not want me to?"
"I killed your Queen, you made it clear you'd have my head."
Jessica only smirked, "oh but don't I?"
Suddenly everyone at the table was confused, "excuse me?"
"Yes sure, in the heat of the moment I wanted your physical head. Then I decided it wasn't worth it. Because mentally, you're already torturing yourself. You can't figure out why I let you go, you're constantly thinking of whether or not my actions are part of some bigger plan of attack. Whatever you do, you can't stop thinking about me. And I'm flattered," Jessica was sassing them now, "I really am flattered but no, this isn't some new plot. I don't care for killing you, all that that happened was never supposed to. It was impulse and anger. It was never part of my mission."
"So what was it all about then? Your mission?" Clarke asked.
"She just needed to find the prince of Azgeda." Echo said blatantly.
"Right but you found him. And then you found out the queen died and then decided to go crazy."
"She already went over this! It just happened," Echo was getting frustrated at Skaikru for continuously questioning her Gona, "you're gonna tell me that you didn't make rash decisions to do what was good for your people, Clarke?"
"I never-"
"Never what, Clarke? MEANT to hurt anyone? To kill anyone?"
"Echo that's enough." Jessica was standing now as she commanded Echo to stop.
"You never MEAN to do ANYTHING, Clarke. You just do it! For crying out loud, you're Wanheda for a reason."
"ECHO THATS ENOUGH!" There was a clang in the hall as Jessica slammed her fist to the table. "Dinner is over, we shall see each other tomorrow."
Echo stormed out of the hall first followed by the others. Rachel sat quietly at her chair though waiting for everyone so she could be alone with Jessica. I looked at her a gave a curt nod as I walked out of the side door that led into the back halls of the castle. Jessica and I used to sneak through these halls at night when we were younger. These halls were filled with good memories but haunted me with misery as I remembered this was the way I took during my final exit from Azgeda, the night of the duel against Trishanakru.FLASHBACK ROAN
I made my way to the throne room where i found my mother waiting for me. Her eyes boring into mine as I got closer and closer.
"Mother? You called for my presence?"
"Roan. Do you know who I am?"
"Are you being serious? Of course, you are my mother."
"Right. And what is my title to Azgeda."
"Queen Nia kom Azgeda."
"And your grandfather?"
"King Theo kom Azgeda....what is this all about mother?"
Her eyes grew wide with anger as she marched down the steps and closer to me bringing her hand to meet my face with a slap. "You've disgraced us!"
"What?!"
"You were almost killed by that man from Trishanakru."
"But I wasn't. I won the duel!"
"JUST BARELY!" She did her best to compose herself, "I will not have a son who is easily taken down, I would rather die than have a son who can't even take a man down to the death in an instant. You've embarrassed me, your grandfather and Azgeda. You will not be my son, you will NOT be Ice Nation. And by the time the sun rises tomorrow morning, I want you far from my territory. Do I make myself clear?"
"You're banishing me?"
"You are to not come back, do not talk to anyone! And as for Jessica, she's no longer yours. She will marry one that is fitting of her, not to a pathetic so called warrior such as yourself. When she asks for you, I will tell her Azgeda was under attack, and I sent you with my men, and you were killed in combat. She'll weep and mourn but she'll get over it. And all that while, you are to make sure you never make contact with her again. Have I made myself clear?"
"Yes mother."
"I AM NOT YOUR MOTHER ANY LONGER."
With nothing left to say I turned around and walked through the back halls and left for the woods. No time to say goodbye to my love, or to tell her we would see each other again. She would think I was dead in a matter of days and maybe it was for the best. Maybe Queen Nia was right, I was a disappointment to Azgeda, maybe Jessica saw it too. But she never said anything because she was my friend and my lover. Nonetheless I was banished and disowned, I would never get to see the love of my life again. (End). The halls were dimly lit as I walked down them, soaking up the detailings on the wall and trying to remember everything on them.
I wasn't paying attention to where I was going when suddenly I bumped into a little boy about 3 years of age. His brown hair was tied in a baby bun and was dressed in a black long sleeve shirt, black pants and a fur vest. He looked up at me and his blue eyes twinkled as the moon's light shined down on him.
"Oh, hello. I'm sorry about that little guy."
"It's okay."
"Where you going?"
"I'm playing! But don't tell mommy okay? She told me not to run around the castle."
"Haha okay," this little boy was so adorable and full of life and curiosity. "I promise I won't tell your mom. What's your name?"
"My name? What's your name!"
"My name is Roan. And yours?"
"Roan....? My mommy told me stories about a Roan. Are you a prince?"
I sighed not knowing how to answer, "you know what? No, I'm not, just Roan. So you gonna tell me your name or what?"
"Oh right! Sorry." He had a gap between his two front teeth as he smiled.
"My name is Ethan, I'm playing with my friend but I can't find him."
"What's your friend's name?"
"His name is Rover!"
"Well then, why don't we go off and find this Rover fellow huh?" Ethan nodded enthusiastically as we set off to find his friend around the castle.
