Bellamy, Clarke, Rachel, Jessica and I walked into the throne room to find Echo already waiting for us with Marcus, Abby, Monty and Octavia.
"I've already called in a group of guards to join us, they're waiting for us down by the gates. Horses are saddled up as well, are we all good to go?"
"If all of us are here, then yes." I said as we moved out to the gates. "So what's the plan?" I looked at Jessica knowing and embracing the fact that this was one of her specialties.
"We go together into the forest, Bellamy will go with Clarke, Monty and Octavia. Rachel, you're with Kane and Abby. Echo and Roan will be with me. Keep lookout as we still have our search party in the woods, if you find anything report back to the group."
"Here," Kane stepped forward, in his extended hand were a couple of walkie talkies, "it'll help us keep track of each other. To make sure no one gets hurt, and so that we find Rover." His eyes scanned each and everyone of us until lastly landing on Jessica. Her eyes finally meeting his, she gave a curt nod as Kane's lips formed a straight line as if he expected Jessica to give him a hug.
"Everyone understand the plan?" Jessica went back to directing group, "good then. Let's split up at the fork where the treeline splits off."
Jessica and I got on our separate horses just as Clarke and Echo got on theirs. The others would have to walk to get a better look at the tracks or whatever else they could find. Though in a group, we were all a bit spread out, but within the groups we were set in.
I looked to my right where Jessica rode in between Echo and me. Her beautiful features stonelike as she looked on straightforward. Her face was emotionless yet somehow just a glance at it could make the onlooker feel threatened and scared yet peaceful and at ease. Jessica was a mother, looking for her lost child. The scene itself was mesmerizing and haunting all at once, watching someone I knew be so strong and vulnerable all at once. I couldn't help but to imagine what it would have been like watching her with Rover as he had grown up. I couldn't help but to imagine what it will be like to watch her with him in the future.
After some time passed admiring Jessica, I reined my horse in a bit closer to her. "Hey."
"Hey," she glanced at me then looked back forward.
"You know he's trying right?" She only raised a confused eyebrow in my direction, "Kane. Your father...?" No response. "When he first met you, it wasn't on good terms, I get that. But Jessica, when you left he was really upset about the whole situation. Love, you have to at least give him some props for wanting to make things better between the two of you."
"You weren't dropped out of a ship and left for dead when you were a child."
"You were that, Jessica...just a child. You can't sit there and tell me you knew his true intentions for sending you down that ship to Earth. For all he knew, he was saving you or at least doing his best to protect you. If you were in his position, and you knew your child was going to die but also knew that there was a slight chance you could save your child...even if the place you were sending them meant a 50/50 chance, what would do? Would you send Rover?"
I could see the imaginary wheels in her head cranking as she bit her tongue down so she wouldn't say anything she'd regret in the future. "I wouldn't have sent him alone." She took a deep breath, "but I see where you're coming from. It's just hard, I don't know the man."
"Then get to know him, love. Allow him to be the best father he can be to you, the same way you're allowing me to be the best father I can be to Rover. Think of this, not only will Rover be meeting his dad soon, he'll be meeting his grandfather."
"When we find Rover..." her face went back to being stonelike as she said our son's name.
We needed to find him, and we needed to find him now.
