I had a horrible nightmare. I bought a puppy and named her Milo. Cassie and me bought cute little bangles for all of us, and we went to watch a movie. I went to get some snacks, she went to the toilet. I was sent a text telling me she was scared, and I went to assist. A stranger in black had intruded, and made both of us bleed. She was the target, and I didn't do enough to help her. She never answered my calls out to her, my screaming, my yelling, my hatred and anger being taken out against the walls. I'd finally become exhausted, and as much as I fought the sleep, my body was against me, and I was forced to surrender.
I woke up the next morning on the floor of the bathroom, beside my murdered best friend, Cassie. It felt like a bad dream, but it wasn't. It all happened. I don't need any more proof. I sat myself up, and placed her head on my lap.
I screamed. All the anger, the hatred, the misery, the sorrow, all left my body. But contained like prisoner's, it all kept returning. I heard a whimper, and remembered Milo. She came over to me and stood up on my leg. She sniffed at our bestfriend, and continued to whimper as she looked up at me.
I hugged Cassie against my chest, blood and everything. I couldn't care less. I felt so guilty, so sorry I hadn't done more, and I wished the boy went through with his threat that he gave me.
I should've found a way to piss him off, then he woulda killed me too, but why didn't he in the first place? I asked myself. Did he have something against Cassie? Was there something that I'd missed?
Milo scampered off my leg, and headed to the door. I watched her give it a sniff, scratch at it with her paw, and she stopped. Her ears pricked, and she took a few defensive steps back. She began to growl. "Milo!" I told her. She looked at me when she stopped, but her ears pricked up and she turned back to the door, and began to growl again.
"Milo." I whistled, and she came striding toward me. I gave my companion, my friend, a pat, and noticed the blood on her paws, legs, belly, the blotches on her neck and over her face, even some on the underside of her tail.
I tried to think about what time it was, but with no natural light sources or windows, I had no idea what time it really was. I cleaned as much blood off of Cassie as I could, and gave Milo a quick rinse under the tap in the sink. I got some of the blood of me as well, but I couldn't get the stains from my clothes out.
I put Milo's black collar and lead on and put it around my wrist. I swung Cassie's purse over my arm, and went to pick her up. I wouldn't leave her here. But as I went to lift her, I felt a sharp throb in my arm. I looked at my arm, and noticed how serious the cut was. It was really deep, and there was blood still draining in parts. But I didn't care.
I turned and picked Cassie up, and I walked out of the bathroom and out into the corridor. I walked past the dark ticket desk, and relized how dark it was outside. The moon was gorgeous, and the stars shined like Cassie's once innocent and lively eyes. I felt a tear hurry down my cheek, and Milo whimpered once again.
I felt so alone. My bestfriend had been struck by a knife, and she was now unresponsive. She laid dead in my arms, without any hint of life within her. My companion, my pup Milo, looked up at me and read how I felt. She knew what had happened.
"C'mon Milo." I encouraged, shoving away the thoughts and emotions that were clouding my head. As we went to leave, the doors were locked. I checked all the entrances and exits, but not one was unlocked. I built up a rage within me. I just wanted out, but someone locked the doors! "Dam..." I cut my cussing short. I heard a pair of heavy boots echo through the shopping centre.
Not good.
I thought about the options. I could go and tell him what happened, or I could avoid him. The only problem with that, was that if I got found I'd look suspicious. That's the last thing I need.
I paced around the area for a moment, and found a dark spot to sit down. I held a beautiful girl in my arms, and had a loyal pup beside me.
I broke down into tears, and sobbed miserably. I could hear my cry echo through the large building, but suddenly I felt a scream coming on. I tried clenching my teeth. I tried hitting the back of my head against the wall behind me. I tried clenching my fists as tight as possible, but struggled to cope.
I screamed so loud, and the echo pierced my ears. Poor Milo whimpered. That must have hurt. "Sorry girl." I sobbed as I coaxed her onto my lap. She laid her head down on Cassie's shoulder. I cried again, but not out of sadness, misery or depression.
I felt so alone.
I heard the heavy boots again, but I couldn't care less. I was too exhausted, too weak to care. My friend had laid in her own blood, and I witnessed both her ending, and my beginning. It was to be a new beginning for me, because I'd sworn to Cassie that I would track down her killer, and slaughter the coward without regret.
A bright flashlight came around the corner from where I sat, and searched the floor. I held Cassie to my chest, so lost and insecure. The flashlight came and blinded me, and I had no choice but to raise my hand to block out the light.
"What do you think you're doing in here?" a guy asked. He looked so tall, strong and intimidating, and I felt so tiny. "Can you turn the light off please?" I sobbed, with a bit of anger in my voice. "Did you..." "No! She's my bestfriend!" I yelled at him. "I would never hurt her." I began to sob again.
The guard cautiously came over and inspected Cassie with his flashlight. "But why are you both still in here at..." he checked his watch, "almost 3.40?" I looked down at my friend, and looked away so he couldn't see my frustration. "You're going to have to come with me."
He took me into a closed off part of the building that looked like a security room or something along those lines. Milo scampered close to my leg with her tail tucked in between her hind legs. "What's going to happen?" I tried to ask behind a calm face.
"Some people are going to come and talk to you. They'll ask some questions, and they'll take it from there." he explained. I froze where I was, my legs defensively apart and Cassie drooping in my arms. Milo stood defensively between my legs, her tail held up. "Cops?" I asked defensively. He studdered, and gave a simple "Yeah."
"Why do the cops need to come if I didn't kill her?" I said louder than I would usually would. Milo began to growl at the guard, and he stopped in his tracks. "Kid, nobody's..." "I'm not a kid!" I claimed. "I'm carrying my dead bestfriend in my arms! Do you think I feel like a kid?!" I screamed.
"ALRIGHT!" he yelled over the top of me. "Alright." he gestured his arms in a lowering motion. "I'm not saying you killed your friend..." "Cassie." I filled in. "Cassie." he grinned as he repeated her name. "What the hell are you grinnin' 'bout?" I asked with a stern look on my face. "Relax! I didn't..." "NO!" I screamed, purely out of impulse. "I won't relax! Not until Cassie is safe, and the boy who killed her get's what he's got coming!" I yelled.
He looked at me in shock. "What?" I shrugged. He picked up the speaker he had attached to his shirt and held it against the side of his mouth, while keeping an eye on me. "Get here ASAP." he said. "Tell them to bring a straight jacket while they're at it..." I mentioned sarcastically. Unbelievably, he picked up the speaker again, and requested a straight jacket. "It was for you by the way..." I added. The guard returned with a 'try me' expression on his face, and he continued with an attitude to match.
He put the speaker back quite quickly, and with a stern voice he pointed over to a chair. "Sit down on the seat over there, and don't move until I come back. Understand?" he wasn't being polite anymore. I nodded, and went and sat. I couldn't care anymore. Milo was still growling, and had begun to bark. "And shut that dog up, darn it!" he yelled as he walked through a door and closed it behind him.
"Milo, we ain't stayin' here." I told her. Whilst balancing Cassie on my lap, I reached down and unclipped her lead. "Ready?"
