"KASS!"
Kayden shit himself.
Troy couldn't do anything, he was under me, and was clearly afraid.
The dogs both shut up instantly.
The blood pulsed through my fingers, and I suddenly found it so hard to actually commit to it, and pull the trigger. I closed my eyes. Just count to 3. I whispered to myself.
1...
As I took a breath in, my chest became filled with air. The blood stenched air of the murder lured over to where I stood. I gave a huff, releasing the air my lungs contained. My heart felt like it would soon tear its way out of my body. So tensing up my shoulders, I braced myself.
2...
"Cops!" Troy's voice yelled in panic, still lying on the forest floor.
I turned away quickly to face the direction I believed the road was in. Within the slight moment that I looked, I couldn't see any lights, hear any sirens, or feel any engines.
Except my gut; I'm hungry.
I heard fast paced footsteps run at me, and I spun around just quickly enough to be able to brace for Kaydens' attack. He went and put his arms around my elbows, and picked me up off the ground.
I tried to struggle to get free, but apart from Kaydens' slight steps to keep him balanced and the occasional slip, it was just pointless. He's taller, stronger... I was fucked either way. I gave up the stuggle and just relaxed, and gave a sigh.
Troy came up infront of me as both Kayden and I caught our breath from that struggle. I had an idea, and acted quickly upon it. I brought the gun as close to my gut as possible, given what room I had because of Kayden restraining me, but just as quickly, Troy grabbed both of my wrists and spun them around my sides, preventing me any space to move.
I growled in my throat, admitted in defeat, which I hardly ever did. Two older boys against a teenage bitch with stitches in her arm. Yeah that'd go down well.
I'd facepalm right now, but...
So Troy took the gun from my hand and put it away in his pant pocket, and Kayden continued to hold me off the ground, firmly around the gut.
"You can put me down now." I bluntly told him.
"Troy, find some rope or something, yeah? I don't want her hurtin' herself."
The way he said it, and the fact that he'd actually said it, brought a tear to my eye.
A minute or two later, Troy comes back from the direction of the ambulance. He'd found some thicker, strong bandages, and as if that wasn't humiliating enough, he bought a white blanket back too.
"You cold buddeh?" I asked, still hanging. "No. I just found it under the passenger's seat, wasn't too sure how much restraint Kayden wanted..."
It took me a second...
"Seriously?!"
After a few long minutes later, I was sitting on the ground, hugging myself with the stupid white jacket and the funny sleeves. The boys were satisfied at the fact they'd actually got in on while I was squirming as bad as I was.
"You know how much this jacket adds to your 'badass' feeling?" I asked, trying to find some way out of the uncomfortable piece of shit.
"You know how silly you look?" Troy asked rhetorically.
"I refuse to answer that." The boys laughed a bit, and Kayden came round to help me stand up.
"C'mon, take it off," I said whilst trying to get it off. "You got the gun now anyway, what the fuck'm I gonna do? Reach uncomfortably in Troys front?!"
"She's got a point..." Kayden thought aloud.
"Keep it on 'er a while. Let's get goin'. I don't wanna be out here all night." Troy shivered, looking around towards the canopy of the trees, trying to find a glimpse of the moon. Kayden gave me a pat on the back and we followed Troys lead alongside the road.
I'm not all that sure how long we'd walked, but I was sick and tired of this fucking jacket! I'd become that annoyed that I'd began to chew just under inside the shoulder! The boys hadn't seemed to care; we just continued on.
Milo and Shady followed obediently. They sniffed the wildflowers closer to the road, and Milo would test his dominance over the much larger Anatolian Shepard. She failed, ofcourse, and copped a good growling at from Shady. Milo whimpered away, tail between her back legs and ears back. We knew she'd try again later though.
Soon enough, not long after I'd make a small tear in the jacket, there were lights up ahead. We had a small peek, and moments after realised that we hadn't seen this side of the town before. We were unsure if Troy's truck was here, and if it wasn't here we weren't going to walk all the way back and to the next town.
Kayden turned to Troy, "What was in the truck?"
"Petrol?" he answered rhetorically.
"No shit. Do you need anything from it?"
"I got the important stuff in ma' pockets. If I'd lost the truck, then so be it, I got the key 'till it was found. But if I found it again, yeah, I'd be alright."
"So you don't need the truck?"
"Nah, it wouldn't even sell, where-ever I tried."
"So no-one would want it?" It was more of a statement than an answer.
"Probably not."
"No-one would want anything that's inside?"
"Probably not."
We merged onto the side of the road and entered the town, wondering if we'd find his truck.
"Just ask someone if there's a Maccas in town. If not, we just catch a wheel to the next town." Kayden shrugged.
"Great, but I can't walk 'round with this shit on." I mumbled while still chewing on the shoulder. Without question, Kayden came over and unclipped the back, and it slid right off. I stretched my arms, and once I'd relaxed and gave a huff, I examined the stitches.
To put it simple; it looked bloody awful.
It suddenly reminded me of Cassie, and how she laid lifelessly on the bathroom floor in the cinemas.
I had the strongest hatred right now, I wished I'd ripped his throat out, there and then. God dammit, why didn't I?! What the fuck did he want with her anyways?!
I looked at Kayden, and he noticed I was wondering, thinking about something. He gave me a look of questioning, asking me what I was thinking with just his expression.
"How long you reckon it'll take for it to heal over?" I asked, returning to look at my arm, while lightly brushing my fingers over the stitches.
"Depends. If it's as not too deep, it'll heal over within a matter of weeks I think. It'll leaves scars though, if it's as bad as that, definitely. It may take a long time for the scars to disappear though." he answered.
I sadly smiled, and thanked him with a small nod of my head. It didn't make me feel all that much better; I wasn't referring to my arm.
How I missed Cassie, and knowing that her murder cut me down pretty deep, it made me die inside.
Again.
