Not That Kind Of Wound

"Kassidy. Get up!" I heard his voice plead. He was trying to sit me up straight, but my body went limp. "God Kassidy...!" Kayden sobbed. I heard Milo whimper, and felt her nose crawl under my hand. With what strength I had remaining, I sat myself up. I bent my knees, leaned my elbows upon them and sobbed into my hands.

I was crying, but not out of physical pain.

"Kassidy. What's wrong?" Kayden asked. I didn't answer, I only continued to sob. "Lay down... please?" he begged. I laid myself down, and covered my eyes with the underside of my elbow. The sun was bright, and I felt my skin becoming warm to the touch.

"But, Kassidy, there's no blood..." "I know." I sobbed, breathing heavily on my back, in the middle of the road. "Kass! You had me worried. What happened?" his voice was caring, but I didn't feel comfortable telling him what had happened.

I sat myself up, and he quickly positioned his hands to support me. "It's nothing." I said, hopping up onto my feet. I wiped the tears away from my face with my wrist, and took a deep breath. "Kass..." "I'm fine." I assured him, looking up and down the road.

"We need a ride." I thought aloud. "I just..." "I know..." I cut in. I looked at my arm, where there was blood, and Kayden noticed. "Kass?!" "What?" he came over and inspected the wound. "Ouch..." "It doesn't hurt." I lied, shaking my head.

I took a closer look. The was a massive cut going diagonally across the inside of my lower arm. "How'd you manage that?" he asked me, looking into my eyes, obviously concerned. "I don't know." He looked up at me, wanting the truth. "I don't know. Truth."

"We've got to fix that up. Got a sowing needle on ya?" Kayden asked. "No, but there's bound to be one in the next town." "How long is it gonna take to get to the next town though." Kayden thought.

We had no idea where we were to start with, and to me, the natural environment doesn't look anything like it does back home.

I frowned at myself. I guess I can kiss good bye to that word... home. Again...

"We need a lift." "Nah, really? I was thinking of walking the whole way." I sarcasically replied to Kayden's obvious conclusion. "Come sit by the side of the road. We'll wait on the outside edge and I'll throw myself infront of the next moving object to make sure it stops." he smirked as we got off the road.

I laughed. "Hey, if anyone gets to jump infront of a moving vehicle, it'll be me." Kayden looked back at me, with a half grin across his face. "No, because I won't let you." he said, taking his seat on the edge of the road. I sat down beside him. "I couldn't care less. I want to see someone..." I trailed off.

"Hmm?" he hummed. I let out a sigh, and felt a tear trickle down my face, on the left side of my face. Good thing he was sitting on my right; I didn't want him to notice.

"I was in that place, because I'm..." I huffed. "I'm suspected of murder. BUT!," I quickly started so he wouldn't judge me, "The girl who was killed was actually my best friend. You reminded me of her when you called out 'Kassy" from the back of the truck..."

"I'm sorry. For both reminding you of your friend, and your loss." he told me, wrapping his arm over my shoulder. I leaned into him while holding Milo, who was sitting on my lap. I continued on.

"Cassie and I went to buy Milo," I gave her a scratch behind the ear, "We went to the cinemas to watch a movie for the second time in two nights, and some guy shows up in the girls toilets and just... just..."

I struggled to cope with the finale.

"He just stabbed her. Drained her." I realized I was almost yelling behind my clenched jaw. "I fought as hard as I could, but I could do nothing. Nothing damnit!" "Shh... it's alright." "He was mocking me, like he knew I couldn't win. He toyed with me. He threw me to the walls and he stabbed my arm..." Shit, it's the same one he cut that was bleeding now. Dayum.

"He just left us for dead. He said to me," as I mimicked a deep mans voice. "'Be lucky I don't do the same to you' and he walked out. Like nothing ever happened." I sobbed. "She's buried safely with two other graves that I've dug, but her parents... they were outraged.

"They called me a 'Blackblooded Murderer', and a traitor to their family. They wouldn't believe me. I tried to tell them that I'd fought for her. Hell, I'd give my life for her if need be. Damn straight, if I had the chance, I would've distracted him long enough for her to get away!

"But they threatened to call the law, so I left."

I'd started crying, uncontrollably. Kayden sat there hugging me for atleast an hour, as did my pup Milo. "She had bangles just like these." I said running my hand along Milo's front left leg. "We all have them. Now hers are six foot under the soil, around a decaying bodies' wrist."

"Shh... it'll be alright." Kayden soothed. "If it makes you fell better, and not so alone, my family are all under the soil too. Have been for 8 months." I looked up at him, even through my tears, which blurred my vision. "Why?"

He hugged me closer and laid his head down ontop of mine. "Because my cousins a physco."
