Chapter 12

Overwhelming Contradiction

A. Hamilton

Fuck.

Clinging to the pole, I watched in shock as the man who had chased us was making his way over to us... Burr glared at the straggly lad and made a kind of growling sound in the back of his throat.

We didn't even notice that the strange vehicle came to a stop and people were hopping on... A man brushed past us, grabbing the pole that was near me.

What was strange was that when I looked at him, we locked eyes...

He had these deep, dark brown eyes that can tell you a story or two just by gazing into them. His hair was short and swept slightly to the side and he had a bit of facial hair. The man had slightly tanned skin and stood only an inch or two taller than me...

I felt a tug on my coat and was immediately pulled away from the trance.

"Come on we have to-" Burr spoke urgently just as the "subway" moved.

I was caught off-balanced and almost fell but held on with on my might.

"Shit..."I heard Burr mutter under his breath.

A shiver went down my spine when I saw the creepy lad glaring at me from at least a few feet away...

At least, he stopped coming towards us... But, who can move with all these people in here... My god...

I heard a small chuckle from the man next to me.

"First time?" he asked.

Confusion clouded my brain at the question but I soon realized he meant being on this thing...

"Uh...oh, yeah, I suppose that this is would be my first time being on this...subway," I answered, hesitantly, looking back at the man.

Burr glanced at us and made a worried grunting sound.

The man smiled and held his free hand out for me to shake it.His eyes glimmered hidden youth and warm friendliness. I felt at comfort around him.

"My name is Lin-Manuel Miranda! You aren't from around here, are you?." he spoke.

Panic seeped through me. I glanced at Burr who stiffened, looking at me with wide eyes.

How the hell am I supposed to respond?!? I can not tell this man my real name... Can I?!!

"Oh! Uh...n-no I'm not from around here..." I stuttered embarrassingly.

The "subway machine thing" stopped again...

We took this opportunity to race out of there, quickly.

"Wait!" I heard the man called "Lin-Manuel Miranda" call.
