Chapter 15

The Water Running Inside

A. Hamilton

I stared at the woman lying on the ground and then back up at her husband. She had just...fainted. Huh...

"Well, that was interesting..." I said.

Lin went over to his wife and shook her. He repeated her name, I guess in attempt to bring her back?

I walked over to the kitchen area, gazing at the peculiar things around. I haven't really the chance to investigate my surroundings earlier because of the whole fit Burr had. That's when I noticed a metal pipe that curved inward into a box shaped hole in the counter. It had a handle and I ponder to whether or not to lift it. Hesitantly, I lifted the handle not knowing what exactly to expect.

In shock, I looked as crystal clear water pouring out. My dry tongue wanted a taste of the water. I touched the water with my hand to find it to be cold and yet calming. The water just came out clean. Running water indoors...? Extraordinary...

"Oh, you've never seen running water before, huh?" I heard a voice say behind me.

I jumped a little at the sound of the voice and saw Lin standing there. He had a look of amusement on his face. Suddenly, he turned away towards a cabinet. I watched in confusion as he pulled out a small cup. He went to the flowing water and filled the cup. Lin pushed the handle down. Smiling, he handed me the cup. I was puzzled as to what he wanted me to do with it. I looked up at him and he giggled.

"Drink up," he told me.

I did what he said and the cool liquid filled my mouth. It was simple but strangely tasteful. The cup was empty with a few gulps. Lin looked at me, expectantly. I guessed he wanted me to say something...

"It's...refreshing," I told him with a smile.

"Yeah, I expected that you would be a bit thirsty," he responded.

Lin looked over to his wife who was resting on the couch now. He must've somehow carried her over there... Burr was still in a small insecure ball. What's wrong with him?

I looked back to the kitchen and noticed a big box with handles.

"Oh, this is called a fridge," Lin said opening the box to show a variety of foods organized in it.

"Huh..." I murmured looking inside it.

So they store their food in boxes? How do they prepare their meals?

"Are you able t-to tell me about what what happened?" Lin asked me.

I knew he was just waiting to ask that question.

"Oh, uh yeah sure-" I answered but was interrupted by a yell.

"DUEL!" I heard Burr say.

"What the hell, Burr?!" I yelled back, getting rather annoyed with him.
