Chapter 18

The Bodiless Grave

A. Hamilton

We had stayed yet another night in this time and was given the guest room. Unfortunately, that meant being in the same bed.... I shiver at the thought of staying here forever and being in that bed every night with him. He had nightmares most of the night, thrashing around like a wild animal and hitting me every so often. At least the bed was comfortable even though I slept on the edge of it...

I was still getting used to the fact that I had such short hair and had to wear strange modern clothing. At the thought of the store, I smirked a little. It was more fun than I thought it would be...

Today, Lin had to work in his office and had told us to not disturb him. Thinking about work, my hand itched to write once more. Walking around the apartment, I noticed a small stack of paper stuck together and a pen-like thing next to it. My fingers fumbled with it, pressing down on the top to reveal a point.

"Huh..."I muttered.

Carefully, I held it like a would a quill and ran it across the tiny colored paper. It is a pen! How peculiar....

Happily, I wrote in small print about what has been happening lately. By the time I was completely, I realized I used up every paper. The paper had sticky stuff on the back of it and was able to stick it to the wall. Excited with this discovery I took the lil papers to the room I am staying in and stuck them to the wall all organized.

Burr grumbled still in bed. He noticed me putting the things on the wall.

"What are doing?" he mumbled tiredly.

"These thin pieces of colored paper stick to the wall!" I spoke.

"Well no shit... They're called "Post-It Notes"..." he replied with a yawn before getting out of bed.

"Huh... Well I wrote down everything that happened lately!" I exclaimed a little too excitedly.

He walked over to read them. He glared at one paper intensely and back at me.

"You...did...what?!?" he shouted at me.

Burr snatched the paper and shoved it in my face. I was confused until I  realized my mistake...

"You...you...k-kissed him?! What the hell?!?" he yelled angrily.

"W-what? It's my way of saying thanks..."I muttered in embarrassment.

"WHAT?!? KISSING A MAN?!?! HAMILTON! This is wrong...." he exclaimed in a tone I've never heard from him.

"My apologies he is just too adorable to not to!" I responded to my defense but covered my mouth.

Oh shit...

"Hamilton... You like him?" Burr muttered.

"Wha?" I said in shock.

"Do you like him?!? I mean gay marriage is legal and shit now but urghhh!" Burr exclaimed.

"No... I-wait what?! Gay marriage?! What does that mean?!?!" I yelled.

Burr walked out of the room without saying a word.

"Burr!" I shouted.

What is gay marriage?

.......

The rest of the morning continued in silence. Burr appeared to be having another fit but trying to control it. I did not say anything else although I wanted to...

Around noon, Lin came out of his room stretching with an empty mug in his hand.

"You guys want to go back to Trinity today?" he asked.

My mouth wanted to answer but then I remembered what happened yesterday... I looked away.

"Something wrong?" he asked us.

"Oh, uh..." I replied trying to look back at him .

"Yes... We are phenomenal..."Burr muttered with a scowl.

"Oh...well...maybe we could go to Panera then go back to the church-uh Trinity Church?" he asked awkwardly noticing the tension.

"That sounds nice, Lin," I answered forcing a smile.

"Okay, great! Uh...Burr?" he said.

"What?" Burr hissed.

"Do you want to go to eat lunch, then go to Trinity Church?" I asked him.

"Whatever..."he grunted and walked out the door without us.

There was a silence. We looked at each.

"Is something-?"Lin started.

"Nay! Let's go!" I quickly said.

We headed for the place called "Panera Bread".

.......

As we neared the old church, I looked up and stared. It looked different but I for sure that it was the same church that I grown to know. People walked into the building and out. Some stared in wonder at Lin and us  but most different seem to acknowledge us. First, we walked to the cemetery and I gawked at names on the stones. I saw people that I have known before...buried here...dead... Hercules was here... Everybody I know is...dead... Then, I saw it. A white box of a grave. I pulled to it... When I saw the name...my breath caught in my throat.

This was my grave...and right beneath it, in the front, I saw Eliza. I was stunned. They thought I died...and Betsey lived to her late nineties...

"They gave up searching...and hope. Myth says Eliza found a couple feathers: one was white which meant a loved one was watching and an orange one meaning success..."I heard Lin's voice drone in.

"Huh..."I mumbled.

"S-she was the only one who held on to hope...she thought you were still alive even on her death bed... Eliza knew something... Something has happened to you and Burr and she knew you both were alive..."Lin rambled on.

"Eliza," I muttered, crouching down to her grave, "I'll see you again...I promise..."

I touched the stone from behind the small fence that divided us.

Burr watched with his mind full of emotions, thoughts and the taunting voices that refused to leave...

I decided then and there....I will live the life that I had been given. I will figure out how to survive in this new environment....society and I will succeed.

Time for a new change...

"Oh! I should show you my musical!"
