Chapter 7,

Monday morning. First day of senior year. I may have never made a strong impression on the first day of school before in my life, but this year would be different. I spent all morning preparing for it. I curled my hair even more to make it look better, I put on my makeup (light pink shadow, dark liner, mascara, pink blush, and pink lipstick), I threw on a floral print tank dress, some pink pumps, and a pink cardigan, I put my hair up in that princess ‘do where some of its in a ponytail and the rest isn’t, and I grabbed my keys, purse, and pink Ray-Bans. I took one look at myself in the mirror and smiled. Elizabeth, I thought to myself, you are looking pretty good today. I opened the door and walked out.

As I pulled up to school in my Volvo, I felt nerves hit me like a ton of bricks. Alex hadn’t seen me since my birthday. Sure, we had talked, but he hadn’t even seen my new ‘do. Would he like it? Would he hate it? Would he even notice it? I wouldn’t know until I got out of the car.

When I got out of the car, I saw people staring at me. I could hear their whispers as I walked by slowly.

Is that Elizabeth Schechter?

Who is that?

She must be new this year.

Dude, that chick is hot.

OMG! That’s the same dress I was gonna buy!

I smiled at everybody while walking by. Most of the guys couldn’t take their eyes off of me. I didn’t know if it was curiosity, intrigue, or attraction, but whatever it was, I didn’t want it to stop.

As I walked into the school, I saw people looking at me as I walked by. Some stepping aside just to get a better look. I suddenly felt like a queen bee. Everyone was clearing the hallway for me, talking about me, staring at me; it was too good to be true that me, Elizabeth Schechter, whose never even had a boy so much as utter her name unless it was during a sport, would be getting all these looks. I smiled and waved at people I didn’t even know.

That’s when I saw him. He was standing by the lockers next to Rian and Jack. His back was to me, so he didn’t see me, but Jack did. Jack looked up from Alex and just stared at me in awe. I smiled at him as I walked over. That’s when Alex and Rian followed his gaze. Alex turned around and his jaw dropped when he saw me. I could tell he didn’t recognize me, so I removed the sunglasses. As soon as I did, all of their eyes widened in shock. I walked over to them and stopped right next to Rian. “Hello, gentlemen.”

Alex couldn’t stop staring. Rian said, “Uh… Are you Elizabeth Schechter?”

I nodded. “Yep. That’s exactly who I am.”

Rian and Jack looked at each other in awe, and then Jack blurted out, “Dude, you’re hot!” Rian, Alex, and I shot him a look and he blushed. “Sorry.”

Alex finally found his words and said, “But, why? Why the sudden change?”

I looked at him. He didn’t look upset by the change, but he did look shocked. I placed my sunglasses in my purse and shrugged with a smile saying, “You’ll just have to find that one out on your own, Alexander.” I turned and walked away, leaving the three of them standing there with their jaws to the floor.
