Chapter 9,

I sat at our usual lunch table waiting for everyone to show up. I had my usual diet of junk food spread out in front of me, but I couldn’t eat. I just couldn’t wait to see Alex again and be near him. I looked up from my table and saw Jack and Claude making their way over to me. They were holding hands and smiling at each other. I couldn’t help but smile amongst myself, thinking of how much I wished that were Alex and I.

When they got to the table, Claude said loudly, “Hey, girl hey!” And gave me a greeting peck on the cheek.

“Hey, Claude. Hey, Jack.” I said smiling at the two of them as they sat down. The one thing about Jack and Claudia that was constantly apparent to everyone around them is that they almost never did anything apart. Ever since they started dating the previous year, the two of them became like one person. Part of me hated it because now Claude hardly ever spent time with me alone and if we planned to do anything together, he always had to be there, but I also appreciated how much they loved each other. I still remembered their first Valentine’s Day when he bought her an engraved golden bracelet. She almost never takes it off.

Claude smiled at me and said, “So, I heard about your first impression on Sir Alexander today! You must be thrilled!” She nudged me playfully while Jack swiped the bag of Lays from in front of me.

“Uhh… Did he say something I don’t know about?” I asked intently.

Jack shoved some chips in his mouth and nodded. “He couldn’t shut up about you.” He said with his mouth full.

Claude and I recoiled. “If you’re going to pass on information, at least do it in a civilized manner!” Claude said shaking her head.

He blushed and said, “Sorry.”

I shook my head and said, “It’s not problem, but what did Alex say, Jack?!”

Jack made sure to swallow first and then he said, “Well, he kept commenting on how he had no clue you even had breasts.”

My face turned beet red and Claude laughed out loud. “I’ll take that as a compliment.” I said under my breath.

Jack chuckled. “You should. We both thought it was incredible.”

I rolled my eyes. Why is it that all that guys ever think about is sex? Even the ones in relationships? “Whatever. Is that all Alexander said?”

Jack shook his head. “Of course not, but I’m not telling you all of it!”

Claude and I looked at him. “What?!” I said angrily. “You have to!”

“No I don’t.” He said slyly. “Besides, I know some of the things he said to Rian and I are things he would rather tell you himself, so I wouldn’t want him to miss that chance.”

Claude and I glared at him as he continued to shovel down potato chips. I snatched the bag away from Jack. “Hey! I was still eating those!”

“Well, since you won’t tell me, you don’t get the chips anymore!” I said, closing the bag up and shoving it in my bag. At that moment, Alex, Rian, and Adrianna came over to the table talking loudly about something in their last class. As soon as Alex set his eyes on me, he got this nervous look about him. He went to sit down in the chair next to Jack and fell onto the floor.

I jumped up from my seat. “Alex! Are you alright?!” There were some giggles from the other kids in the cafeteria. Alex’s face was red, but he let me help him up. “You better be careful. Don’t wanna break your tail bone!” I said with a smile.

He began to look like a tomato and sat down in the chair. Rian looked between Alex and me, and then looked at Jack and started giggling. I could tell he knew what was going on as well. Adrianna looked at me for a long period of time and then she said out loud, “Are you new here?”

All of us looked around, wondering who she was talking about. Suddenly, it hit us that she was talking about me. Alex looked at her and said, “No, Addie, she’s not new. It’s Liz.”

Her eyes widened and she looked at me. “Oh… My God. I don’t believe it!” She said in shock. “I thought that you hated makeup and dresses and all that stuff!”

I shrugged and said, “I adapt easily.” I gave Claude a smug smile and she shook her head.

“Well… You look… nice! I didn’t recognize you for a second there!” Adrianna said, looking a little jealous. “So what made you decide to start making yourself all pretty and such?”

Claude spoke up and said, “Does she need a reason? I mean maybe she just wanted to.”

Adrianna gave her a vicious look and said, “I wasn’t talking to you, but thanks for the input.”

Everyone began to sense tension between them. I said, “Well, Adrianna, I just wanted to do something that got me noticed. That’s all.”

“Why, Addie? You jealous?” Rian said. Jack and Claude started giggling along with him. Alex shot Rian a look and Rian said, “Dude, I’m just kidding.”

Adrianna laughed and said, “Of course not, Dawson! I don’t have anything to be jealous of!”

“Really? ‘Cause I think you might have some competition now.” Claude said, jokingly.

Alex finally spoke. “So, what did you bring for lunch, Lizzy-bug?”

“Just whatever’s in front of me.” I said to Alex.

Alex reached over and grabbed a snack pack. His hand gently brushed against mine and I shuddered. He looked at me and kinda smiled. Adrianna looked at him and rolled her eyes. I could tell she was jealous and it made me feel accomplished. I smiled among myself and thought of the chance I now had with Alex. As long as he was smitten with me, Adrianna might as well pack her bags.
