I heard distant voices like, "Is she alright?"
"How is her wound?"
As my eyes fluttered open, I found myself lying on the ground made of leaves and my head resting on a pack. I smelled fire burning, which means that we are camping out for the night, and I also realised the wound that Morgause had made hurt a lot.
Merlin came over, and examined the wound, when he saw that I am awake, he lit up, "You're awake!" He whisper-shouted, careful not to disturb the other knights who seemed to be eating dinner.
I forced a weak smile, "How is Lancelot? Is he okay?" I asked him, grabbing his arm for support as I sat up on the place. I let out a sigh when his smile faded, "He didn't make it." He said, "I'm sorry, Aurora."
"Captain," I corrected as I sniffed, then one tear slid down my dusty cheek.
"Let's join the others for dinner." Merlin suggested as he helped me to stand up and supported me as I made my way to the fire, where everyone is dining.
Merlin led me to where Leon was seated and asked me to seat beside him. I hesitated for a while but sat beside him anyway. I'm not in the mood for some dumb stew that Merlin had made.
I mean, not to be rude or anything. It just makes my appetite much more worse. I declined when Merlin handed me a bowl. I was still thinking about Lancelot. I cannot believe that when I left for the patrol it'd be the last time I see him.
That's when I stood up abruptly, and scouted my way through the dark back to my sleeping spot, and decided I'd sleep for a while. Furious tears slipped down my cheek as I closed my eyes to rest for the night.
He's dead. And it's all my fault. I thought. Uther should never have sent me on this mission. And for that he'll pay. What would life be like without your Captain?
-
As we made our way back to Camelot, I thought deeply. Uther is under the spell of the mandrake. He'll be the most stupidest King Camelot will ever see.
I dismounted from the horse - which isn't Storm, when we arrived at Camelot courtyard. I were to make a presentation to the King right after the knights take their position in the court meeting.
Morgana shot me a look as she took her place on the chair beside of Uther's, and Arthur standing on the other side of him. The knights took their places on my right, and the other court members, Gauis, Gwen and Merlin included stood on my left.
"My lord. My knights and I are ambushed in the forest last night by Morgause, and she has taken me captive." I did not mention Morgana, which made her sigh silently in relief. Then I went on about how they are going to kill him, without the mention of the mandrake, then lastly I also mentioned the sacrifice of Sir Lancelot.
"Many good men died because of your actions." I finally stated, "If it weren't for you to tell me to patrol the meadows late at night, I would not have been ambushed, and the death of Lancelot would not have happened!"
"What is the meaning of this?" He slammed his fist on his armrest, which made Morgana jumped in her seat next to him. Then he softened and said, "What are you trying to say?"
I unsheathed my sword and threw it on the floor, "I'll no longer be in service as a Captain to Camelot." I answered. Tears streamed down as the whole court members gasped.
"This is madness." Uther said.
"I would rather hang." I told him.
Leon approached me, "Don't do it."
I raised my hand and stopped him in his tracks, "It is my choice."
"I won't allow it." Uther decided, "Dismissed."
Once the rest of the court members left the room, I wasn't surprised that Leon and Arthur stayed behind. Morgana scurried past me in a breeze and left with the rest of the members.
Uther stood up, and faced me, "Your choice is madness. I won't allow it to happen. It is all suicidal." He said calmly. "You will resume your duties as Captain, and forget about the crazy idea in your head."
"Is it madness when you have executed those innocent men and women who have magic? You even dared to execute a young boy just because he was born of magic." I challenged.
"Erase this idea." Uther repeated, "Leon, bring her to her chambers." He watched as Leon grabbed my by arm firmly, I shrugged out easily, "Hold her down if you must."
