By the time Mr Handson moved back to the board, I was actually sweating with pent-up nerves.  Who was this guy?  Why hadn’t I seen him around before?  Was he new, and I’d just missed it?

“Chelsea,” I hissed, half-turning towards her. She was putting on lip gloss, and was so preoccupied by her appearance that she failed to hear me. “Chelsea!” I whispered again. She turned and looked at me, eyes wide.

“Hmm?”

“Who’s that sitting next to David?” She turned around, and then back to me.

“I don’t know. Hasn’t he like, been here all year?” She shurgged.

“No, I don't think so…”  I let the sentence trail off.

“Hm… Weird, then he’s just a new kid.”  She went back to copying down a stem cell diagram, evidently content to let the matter drop.  But I wasn’t giving up so easily.

“Well, how come no-one’s noticed-“

“Excuse me, Miss Reed. Is there something you’d like to share with the class?” Mr Handson leant against the wall, drilling me with his implacable gaze.  Everyone turned to look at me.  I withered.

“No, sir.  Sorry, sir.”  He grunted, and turned back to the board.  After a few minutes, I turned around and looked at Shaggy Hair. He was still looking at me.

And that was just the beginning.

He was in my second, third, and fourth periods.  Every time I asked somebody about him, they just dismissed him as one of those unnoticeable people or a new kid who’d slunk in quietly.

It was starting to creep me out.

When he turned up in my fifth and seventh periods, I was downright scared.  Who was this boy?  Why was he following me?  The only time I managed to evade him was during Sport in sixth period.

So when I got back to my locker, and he was slouching against it, playing with my lock, I was understandably alarmed.  Trying to quash the mash of emotions rising inside me, I walked over to him.

“Hey. I’m Zeya. You’re in some of my classes.” After a pregnant pause: “That’s my lock you’ve got.”

Instead of replying, he just gave a long look, before dropping my lock and walking off.

I stared at him, stunned.

How could someone be so rude?
