Zeya’s POV
“How are you alive? I thought… Marcus killed you?” Kila grabbed an ice pack out of the mini fridge she had in the back room. She handed it to Ace and he put it to his forehead.
“I barely escaped” She replied.
“Escaped?” I questioned. She turned to me with a glare.
“Dad planned it all out. He had an emergency escape hatch big enough for just one. And he put me in it”
“How come I never knew anything about this?” Caleb asked, looking at her with pain in his eyes.
“Because dad knew when Marcus was going to strike. He sent both of us away but mom forgot to take me. That look on his face when he saw me and mom home; heartbreaking. Anyway he put me in the hatch and told me to go to Uncle Joe’s. I did and he taught me everything I’d need to know to protect the pieces”
“And you never thought to tell me you were alive?” Caleb yelled.
“I was given specific instructions not too. You had to do all of this on your own."
“You know how I’ve been feeling all this time? Thinking I was the last one of our family? When I found you my only sister was dead?!” Caleb said anger in his voice and a scary look on his face.
“We just went over his! I wasn’t aloud too!” She yelled, walking up into his face.
“Guys!” I yelled trying to break up the fight. They both turned to me. “There’s a bigger problem. Where’s the piece?”
“I had orders to move it”
“From who?”
“There was a group of people in charge of finding and protecting the pieces and you four. But… I’m the only one left”
“A group of people?” I asked.
“Yeah. The Guardians” She replied.
“And there all dead?”
“Yeah. I think so” She said crossing her arms over her chest.
“So, where is the piece?” Lilah butted in.
“It’s been moved to a secret location inside The Grand Canyon”
“The Grand Canyon!?” I yelled taking a step back.
“I believe you were in school long enough to know what that is”
“Not only do we know what it is, it’s 200 miles away” Ace interjected.
“And we’re being followed” I added in.
“By the Crows Clan?” She questioned.
“How did you kn-“
“One of them stopped by yesterday for a visit. I held him down and sprayed a little holy water on him. He squealed like a pig and told me all about his clan"
“Since when were you so bad?” Caleb asked looking at her weird.
“A lot has changed since you’ve been gone” She frowned.
“Wait…” Ace said putting down the ice pack. “Holy water actually works?”
“Yeah. And I once offered some tacos and snuck a little garlic in there” She said smirking at the memory.
“Garlic? It works” Ace laughed, turning around to face her in his chair.
“Oh god no. They just hate the taste. Gives them bad breath and sense they have such good smell. They can smell their own breath” She laughed. Ace laughed along with her.
