Zeya’s POV
It has been three long and horrible days. We've been walking in dead silence, occasionally we would stop to comfort Lilah because she wouldn't stop crying. Ace kept walking as we watched the map. He hasn't said another word since we left the Wolf Village. It was starting to worry me.
"We should stop for the night? He-he might be catching up" Lilah whimpered.
"We can't. We are almost to the piece." Ace said, not turning his gaze from the map.
"Ace, please." Lilah reached for his arm and he turned to look at her.
"But we...Fine." He sighed, seeing her puffy red eyes. "We'll rest for a bit so he can catch up."
"Why are you always snapping at me?!" Lilah yelled. I'm sure she was just so sick of crying that she was trying to start something.
"I didn't snap!" Ace yelled.
"Well, you said it rudely then!" She yelled back.
"Why are you trying to fight with me?! It's your fault!-" He stopped himself.
"It's my fault that what?" Lilah asked, glaring at him.
"Nothing"
"No come on hothead. You started this!"
"No I didn't!" He screamed
"STOP IT BOTH OF YOU!" I yelled, stepping in.
"No Zeya! Stay out of it! We need to get this out!" Ace yelled before turning back to me. "It's your fault Serenity's dead!" Everything fell silent.
"Stop it now!" Caleb said stepping in. He walked in between the two of them "We can't stop turning on each other!"
"I'm so sick of this okay! You’re lucky Lilah, and all you do is sit here and complain!"
"Lucky! How in the hell am I lucky!" She yelled back.
"Because you have something I don't"
"And what's that?" She snapped.
"Hope" Lilah gave me a confused looked. "You have hope that your love might still be alive. I know mine's dead, I know mine's not coming back" I could see tear building up in his eyes. "So be glad you have hope pushing you along" She looked down at her feet as she moved her weight from one to the other.
"Ace" I said trying to comfort him but his hand shot up.
"What did I say before? Save the apologizes for someone who cares" And with that he stormed away. Caleb and I just looked at each other for a moment. What was that about? He sighed and followed him shaking his head. He and I knew this would be a long journey. Lilah had stopped crying and now she was dead silent.
"I can't do this" Caleb said after about three hours of a painful silence.
"No one asked you to do it." Ace said with ice in his voice.
"Asked me to do what?" he snapped back. I had never seen Caleb like this.
"To do this job! Actually, no one asked us if we wanted to do this stupid job!"
"We didn't ask for this job. We were chosen for it" He said looking at us. "We were chosen for a reason. And now's not the time to start turning on each other"
"Well, I want to be un chosen!" Ace said, "I'm sick of losing everyone I care for. First my family and now Travis and Serenity. I'm just sick of it!" Again everything fell silent. And I saw pain in not only Ace's eyes, but in Caleb’s too.
