Caleb’s POV

Zeya had just fallen asleep next to the fire. It was hard to convince her too, she didn't want to leave Lilah's side. Lilah was alive, but she hadn't woken up yet. I was thinking she just wasn't used to being able to do that.

I looked at Zeya's face. How the flames made shadows dance around her face, she looked so peaceful. Her mouth was slightly open and her chest was moving up and down slowly. She was on her side with her hands under her head. I was looking at her when Kila snapped me out of it.

"You should rest." She said, sitting beside me and leaning against a tree. "You will need your strength for tomorrow. We are leaving first thing in the morning."

"No. I'm good" I replied.

"Caleb, you need to rest. I don't want to deal with a sleepy boy like you."

"You’re not in charge. I've trained myself to go days without sleeping" I snapped.

"What's with the attitude?! You just found out I’m alive and your giving me shit about it?"

"It's your fault." I said, turning away from her.

"How in the hell is that my fault?!" She screamed. Ace mumbled something before turning over. I waited a couple seconds to make sure he was still asleep before continuing.

"What? Having to find three people on your own? That's all you've had to do while I've had to kill vampire after vampire to keep the piece safe"

"Oh really! You think that's it? I had to sit here and watch people around me die. Travis? Ace's best friend? Dead. Aiden? Lilah's boyfriend? Probably dead! Serenity? Ace's love that died protecting us? Dead"

"There must be sacrifices in life to make things right, Caleb! Nothing is easy in life!"

"But no one should have to sit there and watch someone you care about suffer again and again!" She was about to say something, but kept silence looking at her hands on her lap. “What?" I questioned. She looked up at me.

"You’re not the only one who's been through loss"

"I lost my parents, and I thought I lost a sister, but turns out she just didn't care about me at all and some close friends."

"Caleb! Why can't you understand that I couldn't come find you?!" I could see tears build up in her eyes.

"You didn't want to" I mumbled.

"No! You’re wrong. I did want to. All I wanted to do was come find you. And I tried time after time. But every time I did something bad happened. People died when I left to find out. Uncle Joe died when I did... I needed to be where I was for a reason" I just looked at the fire. The flames dancing wildly around making a few sparks flew out.

Kila got up and started to pace around. She then punched a tree and I turned to her. She only looked at me. And I could see it. I could see the sister that I knew and loved. Not this vampire hunter. My sweet, innocent, older sister who always worried about how she looked and what people thought about her.

"I heard about Aunt Pam." She said.

"What about her?" I questioned. Pretending I had no idea.

"The Werecats and vampires attack." she said, "I'm sorry."

"I don't want to talk about it" She didn't know what actually happened. She didn't know what she did to me.

"I know how much you loved her. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you." She said.

"Let's not talk about her" I said crossing my arms over my chest.

"You can let it all out with me, Caleb. I'm here now." But I didn't say anything. She just sighed and sat down next to me. We were silent. A couple minutes later Zeya shivered in her sleep. I took off my jacket and got up, gently placing it over her. She smiled and snuggled under the jacket. I smiled too and sat back down.
