52 | To Risk It All

The next morning Naoko and I decided to meet up at the facility hours before our shift. That meant less people and spare time until we eventually get caught by Koro-sensei or anyone else. 

"Hmm? Don't you have the morning off?" Koro-sensei had happened to meet the both of us walking into the facility building. He went on his phone and nodded his head. "See?"

"Right. I just want to get a head start on the papers for today. I think I won't be able to submit the reports on time." I slightly lied but, it was practically the truth.

"Oh, if that's the case, then by all means."

I waved Koro-sensei goodbye and he did so as well. I walked down to the Project Karma department and saw Naoko waiting along side the door. He motioned his hand and I waved at him.

"No turning back now." He said.

"Yeah, I know but, if you're caught then-"

"I know I'll get fired. Don't worry, I'm planning to find a job somewhere else anyway. You know, America is well known for science facilities too." The lightness in his voice made it less of a burden for me.

"Yeah, but with a criminal record we can't find work huh?" I nudged his arm.

"Then I hope you have good customer service skills. McDonalds is always understaffed." He joked.

We both entered through the lab doors and I laid my eyes upon Karma again. I always end up falling in love with him again. I couldn't help it.
Naoko placed his papers and mine on the control panel and turned on his laptop. He instructed me to enter the dome and start the process. Without gearing up, I brought in the silver working tools and stood in front of Karma. His eyes not meeting mine, his body language was lonely and empty.

"Nagisa, what are you going to do when you get back his memories? I don't think the MD will allow you guys to stay together." He brought up.

"I understand that but I'll just see what happens. Getting Karma's memories back is the main priority." I explained.

Naoko helped guide me through his delineated plan. The steps to rearrange the firewalls and tap into the MD security. We both unlocked codes and within 20 minutes of hacking into the system. Many of them were tricky to disarm and any false moves would alert the government and MD especially. Fortunately we were at our last. Naoko sighed in relief and finally sat down at his desk. He gave me the thumbs up and spoke.

"Red wire to D3 and then loop it two times. Take the cable and add a shock. Take the yellow thick wire with white stripes and connect it to the blue wire, that allows the open slot to be assessable. From there, it will reboot Karma." He instructed.

I followed through with what he said and it worked! The wires mended together and I saw Karma relit with life again.

"K-karma! It's me, Nagisa!" I shook him.

"Not yet, flip the switch over. Right now he's still unconscious to the real world. When you flip the switch, it will be all done." Naoko said.
I took a deep breath. It's time Karma, I'm sorry it took me so long but this is it.

I flip the switch and a buzz of an electric current shocked me as well. I felt the scorching burn upon my hand but, that didn't matter to me.
Karma was waking up.

I tried again to grab his attention. I placed my hand along his face and felt my emotions pouring out. He looked over at me and I was nervous for him to see me like this. His hands a slowly reached for mine and I smiled.

"Nagisa..." He said my name.

"K-karma how are you?" I embraced him tightly and kissed his cheek. "I've missed you."

Karma closed his eyes again and opened to rub them. He tightly held my hand.

"How long was I gone for?" He asked.

"6 months." I revealed.

"I'm sorry that I left you for that long." He caressed my hair. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be." I leaned in and kissed him on the lips. I waited for this, waiting for Karma.

"I know this isn't the time to be saying this but you look beautiful when you cry." Karma teased.

When we both pulled back, I looked over at Naoko who nodded his head. He looked away and continued with the programmings.

"Who's that?" Karma asked.

"Naoko, he helped me regain your memories. You should thank him later he really helped me." I hugged him again.

"Yeah, I will." He spoke. "Hey Nagisa, I know it's been awhile but, I love you."

A sudden pulse hit me without warning and I blushed instantly. I dug my hands into my face to hide my embarrassing expression.

"I love you too Karma, I love you too." I replied back.

Karma took his hand and rubbed it against my stomach. He gleamed at me childishly as he caressed the baby bump.

"I can see it." Karma pointed out.

"Y-you can see it?" I stared down at my own stomach.
"Hahaha." Karma laughed. "Through my modified x-ray vision. Don't worry, no radiation that's harmful. It's rather a small dainty fellow."

"Yeah..." I nodded my head and then lightly tapped my fist against his chest. "How could you not tell me about the baby?" I pouted.

"I wanted to surprise you." He chuckled.

"Well, I was very astonished if you ask me. I thought I was sick and-"

Karma inched in again and kissed my cheek.

"H-huh? What's that for?" I questioned.

"You're so cute, I couldn't help it." He teased me. "Will you have the child?"

"How could you ask me that? Of course I'll have the baby. It's ours, it's your child too." I reminded him.

Karma stroked his hand against my flat stomach and kept his attention on the baby.

I was overwhelmed by all of this. Karma is finally back, he's mine and only mine.

"Nagisa, everything's all set!" Naoko shouted into the speaker and spooked me. I turned around again and saw he gave me two big thumbs up. "I'll be-"

The room suddenly shook, rumbling violently and then the lab door burst open. The glass shattering at the same time. Black smoke engulfed the room and I lost contact with Naoko within seconds. Red sirens went off in the lab and then the emergency vents opened.

When the smoke cleared, I saw Naoko laying on the ground. Blood streaming from his body. A black figure stood next to him and exchanges his eyes with me.

Karma stood up and used his body to shield me. Who was that?! What is that?!

"Stay behind me Nagisa." Karma instructed.
I peeked out to take a better look.

It was Death. He escaped from his dome.
