Once in the store, we got all of the needed supplies.
There was paper, card stock, markers, tape, scissors and a couple of other things as well.
"Alright, that'll be $23.47!" The cashier said.
I reached to grab my wallet from my bag but Carter stopped me.
"I'll pay." He insisted.
I opened my mouth to protest but saw there was no use because he'd already given the woman the money.
This happened a lot back when we were...whatever we were. I'm not sure if he even let me pay once. Although I felt bad, I was also saving money so I didn't really complain.
I grabbed the bags, thanked the cashier and headed toward the exit with Carter following.
Getting everything didn't take as long as we thought so we were going to start working on the project today.
"My place or yours?" Carter asked once we were both seated in his car.
I looked at my phone screen to see that it was only 6:00.
Carter's house was out of the question. He has a big family and quite frankly I didn't feel like having an awkward reunion. The only other option was my house.
My mom was currently away on some case trip for her law firm. Apparently they were very close to securing a defense for their client. I'm guessing this trip would solidify that.
She'd be gone for a couple of days which was good because I didn't want her to be anymore confused about seeing Carter than I was.
There was also my younger brother Cody but he'd most likely be out with his friends or something.
"My house." I said.

By the time we'd arrived I practically jumped out of the car.
The silence was at an all time high and I was thankful to be out of there.
I went over to the front door to unlock it and started to go in when I realized I should probably wait for Carter.
I looked behind me to see him getting the bags from the trunk.
"You don't need to wait up, I know where your room is." He called out.
I stood there for a couple of seconds before realizing I looked dumb. He was probably just talking about all the times we hung out in there...not when we....
Anyway, I went to my fridge to get a bottle of water then headed up the stairs.
My suspicions were confirmed about my brother not being home when I saw his door open and empty. He was most likely out with his friends and wouldn't be home for a while.
By the time Carter got to my room, I was sipping on the water and sitting criss-cross on my bed.
"You can put the stuff over there." I said pointing to a corner in my room.
"So I think the smartest thing to do first would be drawing a sketch, do you agree?" I asked.
"Yeah that sounds like a good idea." He said.
I moved over to my desk, where I grabbed a pencil and opened a random notebook.
Carter came and sat in the chair next to mine.
"Alright let's get started."
