Max woke up the next morning, just like Dove had, except with a headache that thumped against his skull with as much power as a mallet hitting against a steel drum. He felt as if he couldn't move without feeling his entite head wanting to cave in. His body movements were slow and sluggish, but he was shocked he was able to move at all. His finger tips felt numb from sleeping in a weird position, but besides that, his body felt normal. His legs felt like they were tingling back to life, just like his arms were. The only thing off was the headache and the way his eyes felt like they were bulging from their sockets as he kept opening up his eyes.
"Should've taken the whole bottle," he murmured to himself bitterly before he forced himself into a sitting position. His eyes shifted toward his nightstand, where a nearly half filled bottle was. A sigh of defeat left his lungs as he stared at it cold heartedly. If what he took killed him, he would've been a lot happier. "Could've helped a lot of people." With his weakened strength, he pushed himself up onto his feet with his arms. His body automatically felt dizzy and he fell right back onto his bed weakly. Groggily, he shifted his body over and looked around the area for a few minutes before he glanced toward the wall that had a dent in it.
With a bitter, cold-hearted sigh, he spat out quietly, "Shit!" and collapsed back into his bed. His eyes closed tightly and immediately, disappointment flooded through his mind. As well as anger. Those two feelings swam through the back of his mind, as if taunting him until he caved in and got pissed. With all of that new energy, he pushed himself out of his bed and made his way toward his cracked phone as quickly as he could.
When he picked it up, however, it seemed fine. He pressed the on button and when the screen lit up, a sigh of relief poured out of his mouth. Maybe everything was going to be-
His thoughts came too soon. Right on the screen was a notification from the girl he once loved. Though deep in his heart he felt the same feelings, a hatred was covering it and was already taking over. His heart began to pound against his chest heavily until he swiped his finger over the notification to read the entire email.
And it all started with the sweet words of the girl he knew from the beginning...
