Chapter Eleven

A month and a half. The days were dragging on for Dove. Something had snapped in her and instead of saying good morning to her mother and smiling whenever she stepped out of her bedroom, she stayed emotionless and would hardly speak. Her mother grew worried and suggested her to get counseling, but Dove sunk that ship by shaking her head and walking back to her room. She was different than she was when Max had messaged her. Something about him changed her. Changed her for the better. But he was gone, and Dove had lost all hope of him responding.

However, she didn't give up sending emails. Though they became less personal and more simple, she kept sending them, even though when she pressed the send button, her heart would ache. Not just figuratively, but physically. Tears built up in her eyes before she began to type out her latest email.

'Dear Max,

Hey. Been a while, huh? Just messaged to see how you were. Email back when you can.

Dove.'

She pressed send without an issue, but it was when it fully sent that she felt her stomach knot up. Dove already knew that he wouldn't respond, and it hurt her. Because somewhere done the line, she had fallen for him, and somewhere down the plan, she had trusted him with her life.

But now, he wasn't with her anymore.

Not even when she needed him the most.

Her mother had cancer.
