Voicemail

Elise's POV

Geno leaves for Russia tomorrow. He is throwing a team party tonight and all the Penguins are going. The party is at 7:00pm and ends at 12:30pm.

I have "nothing" to wear so I decided to go shopping. My final outfit I picked out was a white off the shoulder bell sleeve top with ripped jeans and sandals. I put my hat down in loose curls.

I still have a half and hour to spare. I sat down to watch TV. I watched a little bit of the show Reba and then decided to head out.

I was driving and listening to my Guns N' Roses CD. I was glanced over to the other side of the road and saw a truck swerving my direction.

In a split second it crashed into my car. The car was going about 72mph. It hit me into the guardrail. My Chevy flipped over the guardrail and got into a tree.

The whole world started to fade. Until finally everything went black. The worst part is in that process all I could think was this is it. My life is over.

Geno's POV

The party started a hour ago and Elise said she would be here but she wasn't. I called her 10 times each one went to voicemail.

I spotted Kris and walked over to him "Where Elise? She said she be here! Not here!" Kris raised an eyebrow "Did you call her, G?"

I nodded "10 times! No answer! Just voicemail!" Kris pulled out his phone it immediately went to voicemail. His face turned almost a shade of white.

He looked up at me from where he is sitting "My dad isn't even here yet maybe she's with him. I'll call papa." I nodded and Kris pulled out his phone.

Kris' POV

My dad picked his phone up within 2 rings. I spoke first "Hi papa, is Elise with you?"

There was a long pause and then he said "I was going to ask you the same. I told her to message me when she got to Geno's to see if he wanted me to bring something over. She never answered back. I called her it went to voicemail."

My heart started beating faster. My dad spoke up again "I got to call you back Kris there is another person trying to call." I choked out "Okay papa, I'll see you soon."

When I hung up I turned to Geno "She never returned my dad's message or picked up the phone." Geno shook his head "I don't have good feeling about this." I nodded "Me too."

Just then Cookie walked in the door. Max yelled from the coach "Matt why are you so late? The party started like an hour ago! Your never late!"

Matt shook his head "I went the back way. There was an accident and I got stuck in it.

My head snapped to Matt "What did the car look like?" He shrugged "I don't know it flipped over the guardrail. I think it was a black Chevy SUV. It's probably on the news. I saw WNEP there."

I ran and grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. Before I got the chance to turn the channel my phone rang. I look down and saw it was my dad.

I yelled "Everyone be quiet!" Everyone shut up. I picked it up I heard my dad sobbing on the other end.

I spoke up "Papa what happened?" He choked out "She was in a car accident. Meet me at the hospital. I'm dropping Chance and Tony off at Dan's house. Jensen is coming with me."

My eyes started to fill up with water "Okay Papa I'll be there."

We hung up the phone. I stared at the ground. Geno spoke up "What happen Kris?"

I shook my head and looked at all the guys. My head stopped at Matt "It was her."

Matt gave me a confused look. I shook my head "Elise was in that car accident... It was her."

Everything went silent. There was tension radiating throughout the room.

I stood up and said "If you want to see her come with me. I'm going to the hospital."

Geno got in my car as well as Sid and Max. The rest of the guys followed. When we arrived I sat in the vehicle.

Geno looked at me "You okay?" I shook my head "I don't think I can. I can't go in. I'm not ready to see her."

Max spoke up "Kris I know it's a lot to ask but you have to be strong for Elise. She has been battling cancer for months. Now she just got into a car accident. She needs you more than she ever did before."

I nodded "Your right, but I'm scared to see her like this. It's hard for me to see her fight her cancer. Now this! This is hell! Why wouldn't god give my family a break! Why!"

Everything fell silent then I started again "First my mother got cancer, then my father, next my mother died of it, then Elise got diagnosed when she was 16, after that she fought it off, then it came back, now she was in a car accident."

Sid put a hand on my shoulder "Kris please just calm down and come support Elise. She needs you. She had told me many times before you, Jensen, Tony, Chance, and Mario are her rocks to lean on."

I nodded and we all got out of the car. I called my dad and he said he was in the waiting room. We all sat there is silence until a nurse came out.

She walked over to my dad "Mr.Lemieux I have to ask you a few medical questions about Elise." He nodded "Alright."

She pulled out a form with a pen "Is Elise currently on any form of medication?" He nodded "Yes, pills for her stomach. I don't know the name of it though."

The nurse spoke up "Any medical issues?" He nodded "She has stomach cancer." The nurse nodded "I'm sorry to hear that Mr.Lemieux."

The nurse continued to ask several more questions. She then finished and said "Thank you for your cooperation." My dad nodded when the nurse was about to walk away he spoke up "Wait!"

The nurse turned around. My dad frowned "Will my daughter be okay?" The nurse gave a faint smile "I can't guarantee anything. But I will say the doctors will try there best." With that she walked away.

We sat there for hours. Some of the boys that didn't know her well left. They all wished us luck that she will be okay.

I found out that it was a drunk driver that crashed into her. They car was going 35mph over the speed limit.

I sat there and thought of every different outcome. I just hope she is okay. I hoped she was the same Elise before the car accident. The Elise I grew up with when I was a kid. My best friend and sister.

But deep down I knew she would never be the same after diagnosed with her cancer. She hid it well but I heard her crying endless nights. I saw apart over her die inside. The sparkle in her eyes was still there but it seemed like it weakened. I just want my sister back. But I may never have her back.

I find it weird that most people's last words to a friend or relative who dies is "see you later." The only thing is there is not later. They are gone. Will there be a later for Elise? Or is she gone before the fight even begins?
