*doctors office*

*Sophia's POV*

I sat on the exam table waiting for the doctor's results. Austin paced around the room.

"Austin, please sit down. You're making me nervous." I said.

He looked up at me. "Sorry, baby." He sat down next to me. "How are you feeling?"

"Anxious." I said.

The door clicked open and my doctor walked in. "Results are in." She said smiling.

I took a deep breath and Austin took my hand.

Doctor Oakerson sat down and smiled at us. "The pregnancy test came back positive."

Austin squeezed my hand and smiled.

"But," she said, "because you've already had 3 miscarriages, you are at high risk of having another one."

I nodded. "What can I do to prevent it?"

She crossed her legs. "Unfortunately, there's nothing that is a hundred percent. But, if you eat right and take vitamins and try your best to keep the stress level down, that will help." She smiled at Austin. "Make sure you take good care of her."

He smiled. "I will."

Doctor Oakerson stood up. "And Sophia, no more drinking, okay?"

I nodded. "I've been clean for a few months."

She smiled and patted my leg. "Good." She handed me a prescription for prenatal vitamins and gave me a hug. "If you have any problems, just call."

She left and I turned to Austin. "I need you to do me a favor." He nodded. "Please don't get your hopes up about this."

He kissed me and stood up. "C'mon. Let's go home. The guys brought over the rest of your stuff from Danny's."

*later that night*

*Austin's POV*

Sophia stood in the kitchen, making herself coffee. I sat in the living room returning emails and doing work.

She came in and sat on the floor and started going through the last box that came from Danny's. Everything else had been put away except 2 boxes. She opened it and gasped.

"What is it, babe?" I said.

I looked up and she pulled out 3 photo albums. She set them aside and pulled out and old blanket, and child's dress, and some sketch pads. She smiled and hugged the blanket.

She looked at me. "This was my blanket when I was little. I carried this thing around with me until I was like 10." She chuckle and looked at the blanket. It was thick, pink, and had lace edges.

I smiled and got on the floor with her. "What's this?" I said, pointing to the dress.

She picked it up and ran her fingers across the red fabric. "When I was little, my dad was a really bad junkie. We never celebrated Christmas or Thanksgiving or anything. And one year, when I was 7, Dad decided to get clean." She smiled up at me. "He was clean for 7 weeks. And around Christmastime, he came home with this dress, and a matching white one for my sister. He told us to get dressed and look very pretty because we were gonna go see Santa." She looked back down at the dress and smiled. "It was the first time we ever did anything for Christmas. After we seen Santa he took us to dinner at this little diner by our apartment."

I smiled and kissed her. "I'm glad you had a good Christmas."

She reached into the box and pulled out a doll that looked like it had been run over by a truck. "This was the present I got that year. The first and only present I ever got." She turned it over and pulled the dress up. She slipped her fingers into the slit in the dolls back and pulled out an old needle.

"That same night, he started using again. I used to steal his needles and hide them in here, and then throw them away when I was walking to school." She said. She put the doll on the floor and grabbed one of the albums.

I took it from her and opened it. The first picture was of a man and a women, probably in their early twenties, a young boy, maybe 6 or 7. The woman and man both held a baby girl. "Is this your family?"

She nodded and took the picture out. She pointed to the woman. "That's my mother, Deanna. She's holding my sister."

I nodded. "What was her name?"

"Lauren." She said. "Wasn't my mother beautiful?" She smiled.

I looked at the picture. Her mother had long brown hair, naturally wavy, just like Sophia's. She had big green eyes and Sophia had her smile. "That's your dad?"

"Yeah. His name was Marcus. He's obviously holding me." She pointed to the young boy. "That's Michael. My brother. He has down syndrome. My mother didn't know how to take care of him so when he was 9 she put him in a home." She put the picture back and turned the page.

The next picture was of Deanna, Lauren, and Sophia. Sophia was little. Maybe four. Both girls were blonde. I smiled. "You're a natural blonde?"

She smiled. "I was when I was little. It got dark when I was 11, then I started dying it when I was 14."

I looked at the picture. Deanna's once full face was sunken and pale. Her eyes were dark and her smile was forced. Her hair was gone. She wore a scarf on her head. You could tell she was dying.

Sophia touched the picture. "She died the next day."

I rubbed her arm. She shook her head and turned to the back of the book.

A large picture of Sophia and her sister was on the last page. Lauren's hair was jet black and she was smiling at Sophia.

Sophia looked at the camera, smiling. Her hair was bright pink and she wore more eye makeup than I've ever seen her wear. They were holding hands and laughing.

Sophia chuckled. "I forgot about this picture. I remember this day."

I smiled. "You look so different."

She laughed. "Yeah." She closed the book and smiled at me. "What do you wanna do?"

I kissed her. "Let's clean this stuff up, go take a shower, and watch movies." I stood up and pulled her up with me.

She smiled and wrapped her arms around my neck. She kissed me and kissed my neck. "Let's skip all that and just go to bed." I smiled and wrapped my arms around her.

"Anything you want, baby." I said.

She kept kissing my neck and pressed her body into mine. "Take me upstairs."
