☆Phoenix Brightly's POV☆
She was pale. And she looked weaker than ever.
Her small body was lying on the big with hospital bed, hooked up to many needles and tubes. And the noise of the heart monitor was the only sound heard.
The doctors said that it's coming to an end.. And it's only a matter of time until she's gone.
I refuse to believe it, but her mom said that she kept rejecting chemo, and now she has no chance, even if we started it now, it won't work.
"Hey sugar" I greeted her, and sat down beside her bed.
The room was cold and lifeless. It was just white.
"I'm sorry" I apologized, tears were running down my face while doing so. "I just w-wish you would've told me.. m-maybe I could've done something"
To believe that I had the slightest power to save her was irrational. But it never hurt to think so.
"Why you? out of all the people on Earth.. why you?" I asked, hoping that she'll magically wake up and tell me that everything is okay, and there's nothing to worry about.
"Please, I don't want us to burn out.. please wake up"
Looking at her made everything harder, all the memories of us haunted me. Her voice, her laughs, the way she used to blush then wear the helmet quickly, thinking that I won't notice.
Her eyes fluttered, and her fingers trembled a bit.
She's waking up.
I got up and called a nurse, "She's waking up!"
I saw her mom getting in the room, a few nurses and a doctor too. But they told us to leave because she has to be stable before we can see her.
It's been 4 hours. 4 hours and now she's waking up.
I sat down on one of the uncomfortable hospital chairs, but then I saw how her mom looked tired, so I offered, "Do you want me to get you some food or anything?"
She looked up at me, then smiled while wiping away her tears.
"No, but thank you, Phoenix" She told me, and mentioned something about sitting beside her, so I did.
"She loves you, you know that right?" She said, "I know that, but I screwed up"
"Son, you didn't. She keeps talking about you, blushing and all that stuff. What she did, lying to you was wrong, I admit." She told me, then looking at the doctors giving her a few needles from the window.
"But, I think she only did it because she was scared. I've never seen her afraid of losing her life, not until she met you" She continued.
"She actually considered chemotherapy. She wanted to live, Phoenix. But it was too late" She broke down.
This is all my fault.
I should've told her how I felt earlier, I should've done something. I had the chance of getting her to do chemotherapy.
"I'm sorry" I said, then closed my eyes, hoping that I'll realize that this is all just a dream, and I'll wake up beside Violet on that hidden beach.
"It's not your fault. You couldn't have loved her better, you made my daughter know what perfect love is" She told me, and put her hand on my shoulder.
"But perfect can't keep our love alive" I told her, then she said, "It doesn't matter if it'll last. What matters is that it happened"
One of the doctors got out and we both got up, ready to hear the news. He told us that one of us can go in before the other.
